I'm a big fan of foaming cleansers: none of this arsing around with cotton wool. My sister had this before me and I loved the smell and how it felt when I used it so I thought I'd give it a go for myself.
CHECKS AND BALANCES
The packaging is simple, clean, and smart as is standard with Origins. It is matte but clear so you can see the creamy white product from the outside (always useful to know when you're running low). The texture of the wash is very thick, rich and creamy with a pearl element to its colour - it looks very expensive. It's not too highly scented but does have a wonderfully muted spearmint tone to it, which is great for a gentle morning wake-up.
When I first owned this I used it morning and night as I would with any cleanser. At first it was lovely and refreshing when I used it. Even a tiny half-pea sized amount would produce a rich creamy lather to generously cover the whole of my face when I dampened it.
Initially I liked the 'squeak' it gave my face when it was washed off, but a couple of weeks on I realised what that squeak meant...my face was over-clean. It does remove light foundation and mattify my face for a long time afterwards but it also started making my face feel tight after use.
I like a bit of tightness after cleansing because that means your face is nice and toned, but not when the tightness becomes mildly uncomfortable (which it had). It claims that it is designed for combination and oily skin, but I would say it's only really suitable for skin that is oily all over.
I definitely wouldn’t recommend it to those with a tendency for dry skin because although the product states “Skin feels comfortably refreshed after cleansing, never tight, pulled or parched” and that the Wheat Protein ‘balances and protects dry zones’ I am almost certain that it would feel horribly tight for them to use.
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY
£12.50 for a 150ml tube - quite high for a wash off cleanser but it lasts an age because you only need a half-pea sized amount as it’s very concentrated.
Origins is available in some department stores and separate Origins shops. The store locator is here: http://www.origins.com/locate/index.html
I will continue using mine until it runs out but I doubt I'll be buying it again.
Advantages: Perfect for combination skin Disadvantages: Pricey
This is the perfect cleanser for people with combination skin. It is the first cleanser I've used that does not dry my skin. Checks and Balances is made especially for combination skin, so if you have an oily t-zone and dry areas on your face, this is the facial cleanser for you.
It contains something called Konjac Powder to soak up oil and Wheat Protein which balances dry prone zones. It also something else called Tourmaline that leaves your skin ... ...it does not leave your skin feeling pulled or tight. Which is a problem I seem to encounter with most facial cleansers, especially ones that lather well. Checks and Balances is a frothy face wash which means it gets quite foamy (unless you live in a hard water area).
I have definitely noticed an improvement in my skin since using this product. It seems quite pricey- like most Origins' products but all you need is a little bit and it goes a long ...

Advantages: Mattifies shiny T-zones whilst leaving skin soft. Great scent! Disadvantages: A bit expensive- but lasts ages
...had a look in the Origins section, and was impressed by the way they laid out all their natural looking products, and offered to fill me a cute sample jar with a product to try.
Well- I wasn't sure, so they asked me my skin type (combination), and suggested I'd try their facial wash- Check And Balances. So I accepted the free sample, and took it home to try out. LONG LASTING
I was very impressed with this. I expected the little jar not to last ... ...month- much longer than I thought the small amount would last. So althought this face wash may seem pricey at £12.50, it's probably worth it, as it goes very slowly!
QUALITY
The texture and colour was creamy and white, with a subtle pearly sheen, and felt very soft on my skin. A tiny little blob lathered very well with water, to form a velvety lather, which left my skin feeling soft and clean.
The smell is also very pleasant- a subtle, fresh, ...

Advantages: a little goes a long way, effective against blemishes and oil Disadvantages: expensive to buy at first
This product is quite pricey at around £10, however a little of the product goes a very long way. You only need to use less than a pea size amount, which equates to the whole tube lasting around 8-9 months, when being used twice a day!
The product is only lightly scented of peppermint, which also makes it feel refreshing. it has a creamy luxurious texture, so is very easy ot lather up on the skin.
i have found that on most occasions make up remover ... ...caked on eye liner and some mascaras are the exception. i have found that the wash is very good against blemishes, as well as excess oil, however i would not recommend it for dry skin, as it can sometimes leave the skin feeling slightly dry.
I would however recommend it to those with combination skin, as it is an excellent allround facial wash and cleanser. ...

Advantages: Divine smell, great packaging, good cleanse Disadvantages: Harsh even on combination skin!
I always loved Origins products as they are funky, smell good and are great quality. I have combination skin with an oily T zone and dry cheeks so I thought Checks and Balances would be ideal for me. Not really.
After using it for about a week it managed to dry the skin on my nose so much, it started peeling. It left my skin quite sensitive and the tight feeling after washes lasted a bit too long for my liking. However, my boyfriend loved it! His ... ...washing his face with Origins Checks and Balances it was beautifully smooth and matt. So I'd say this product is excellent if you have really oily skin or for asian/black skin, as it really strips the face from all oily residue. It is a great product and you won't be disappointed! ...
