I was prescribed Orlistat (Xenicol} by my doctor, but was rather dubious at first as I had heard one or two horror stories about unpreventable leakage. Due to this I thought of the product myself as Oilystat!
However, seeing as I was some six stone overweight I decided nothing ventured nothing gained and rather cautiously popped my first little blue pill.
There is nothing like the threat of public tummy troubles to keep you stuck rigidly to a low fat diet, I have found! This initially is the beauty of Xenicol.
After listening to my doctors advice and thoroughly reading the information leaftlet enclosed with my medication, I realised the significance of eating a healthy low fat diet. Funny that all previous information on the benefits of healthy eating ie; lowers risk of heart attack, cancer etc; had no where near the influence on my eating habits as did the threat of uncontrolable bowels!
And then something wonderous began to happen! I experienced my first weight loss! After sticking to low fat meals, I had experienced NO TOILET TROUBLES AT ALL! And best of all, a weight loss of 6 lbs in my first week!
After this, being human, I started to experiment with a higher fat "treats". All I can say is that provided you do not go overboard, the side effects that can be produced are not a problem. Quite simply, if you take advantage you will pay for it. And that frankly, is fair enough, as after all we are taking this product in order to be rid of out excess weight! My experience was that any consumed fat would be seen as evidence at the next toilet visit. I had no urgent, must go now experiences, but this may be due to the fact that I did not push it with the fat content of my meals.
If too much fat is consumed side effects are stomach cramps, an uncontrollable need to open bowels immediatly, and violent diarrohea! It will be obvious that high fat consumption has caused these adverse effects as your toilet bowl will be a nasty shade of orange! Xenical works by preventing up to two thirds of fat consumed being stored in the body, and instead the excess fat is removed from your system via the bowels. The expelled fat can be seen down the pan as orange fat globules and may be mixed with faeces. Due to this unnatural state the body cannot hold onto this waste and a rapid state of urgency can occur. You have been warned!
I think the moral of the story with Xenicol is "Do as you Dare"!
Used sensibly, this is a fantastic product, with none of the rotten side effects of most appetite supressants.
Personally, I stayed on Xenicol for three months and in that time I lost a total of three stone taking two pills a day. I am now a happy size fourteen and would recommend Xenicol to anyone. Why not try it and see for yourself!
