Oshkosh B'Gosh clothing have been around for years. The company started in 1895 making hardwearing work overalls. They then decided to make overalls (which we call dungarees) for children. The name of the town the company was founded is called Oshkosh in Wisconsin USA, hence the name of the clothing.
Since the turn of the century the company has done very well and now sells their clothing in over seventy countries. With the huge expansion the company , they have brought us a more varied clothing line making a variety of childrens clothing and even bedding and shoes. In the USA the range of products available is much greater.
***What types of clothes do Oshkosh B'gosh sell***
The most common item of clothing is of course the classic pin striped dungarees which is the company's classic. They make very hard wearing dungarees in a variety of colours from denim to girlie pink. These dungarees are very much the old fashioned style with the metal fasteners.
They also make jeans, trousers, joggers, sweatshirts, t-shirts, girl's pinafore dress dungaress, dresses, hats, babygrows and essentials.
***Durability***
These clothes are design to last. They look the same even after many washes and most can be tumbled dried. They are ideal for the wear and tear that toddlers and children put on their clothes. These are the type of clothes that can be passed down generations as they really do last the test of time.
***Style of clothes***
The best way to describe the overall feel of Oshkosh B'gosh clothing is to compare it with the style of clothes you could get in Gap. The majority of the clothes have a very traditional style and don't really seem to date, which makes them ideal clothes to pass down to younger children, or to sell on ebay. The boys clothes are more traditional with the clothes staying mainly to the primary colours. The girls fabrics use a variety of bright colours, soft pastels and pretty designs. These are not the sort of clothes that you would buy for a special ocassion as the vast majority are casual.
The newborn baby clothes are less cute than the ones you can buy in gap.
***Age range***
Oshkosh B'gosh make clothes for newborn to age 14, but in the UK you can buy in Boots up to age six only.
The main selling point of these clothes is their durability. They are clothes that do display the brand name which appeals to some people but for me the quality is far more important than a brand name. I feel these clothes are ideal as play clothes and for everyday wear, but the problem is that they are quite expensive for play clothes. On the other hand the clothes last for a very long time so you do get your money's worth. I never like to spend too much money on plain clothes, so due to this reason I limited myself to only purchasing a few items from the range which I then use for everyday wear.
A real advantage for me is that Oshkosh clothes fit really well over cloth nappies, unlike many other leading brands.
