When I saw this guitar, there was no two ways about it, I had to have it. My father took me to a music shop on my 14th birthday to help me pick my first acoustic guitar, after playing a basic electric learners guitar. The fact was I had begun to start song writing and I was coming out with pure folk melodies and tunes. I wanted to have a guitar that fitted the music I was writing. When I saw the Ovation custom elite model, CE768, and played it for the first time, I new this guitar not only looked beautiful, but sounded so too. I can just give my simple and personal view on it. At gigs the guitar gets recognised as being significantly "folk”. The detail and decoration are noticeable, of the Ovation oak leaf pattern. In my opinion I feel that this guitar is pure guitar making art. There are over 300 pieces of abalone shell, each hand inlaid. A guitar with so much craft and creativity should be praised.
But it all very well a guitar looking nice but what does it sound like, I hear you ask?
Notice that the Custom Legend A-shaped bracing and the Quintad pattern, gives the top greater freedom of vibration. This is awesome when you are playing, because you can feel your insides rumble when you strum a chord. The guitar sounds brilliant plugged in or not. It is easy to play, and produces a very soft beautiful sound. With the round back, which I was told by the shopkeeper, to be a particular favourite in females, because you are able to grip the guitar closer, which makes it easier to play in a folk way. (Lots and lots of finger picking!) The 5-piece neck is made from mahogany and maple. The ebony fingerboard is decorated with abalone inlays and fitted with nickel silver frets. Each of the frets is crowned, dressed and polished by hand, and then the fingerboard and neck are finished with Danish oil.

It features a Lo-Z balanced XLR output in addition to the 1/4" Hi-Z output, eliminating the need for a direct box. The on-board digital chromatic tuner provides instant reference, even for open or non-standard tunings.
With such a beautifully equipped instrument you can only improve your skills.
