Overlord may be on of the most innovative games Codemasters have ever produced. The game is seriously evil, and you can choose to be more evil in the game as you are already the evil overlord, the leader of a number of goblins who await your commands. The fairy tales just seems to have taken a twist here, as you are to fight the "evil" halflings, elves and dwarves in their homelands, who were on the side of good in most of the stories and the ones who played Age of Wonders series will also have a question mark for them. But the game is so entertaining that most of the question marks are left behind, and the game reigns supreme.

THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL You had been an overlord for a long time, and ruled the whole land until some heroes overthrew, killed your minions and destroyed your tower and you lost its heart, the source of your power. You had been sleeping ever since then, and now as you have woken up, you have to claim everything which belonged to you once. You won't be alone out there, as your minions will accompany you, and there is a goblin character Gnarl, who will give you some advice and also lead you to a small tutorial which you may need in this game, as the game is somewhat a new concept especially as controlling the minions is involved.
The game involves various areas which are unique in their own way. You have to get throught the various quests in these beatiful lands with the help of your minions. You won't be able to do things all by yourself this time. The fights also take a lot out of you, because you will be starting with only three health points and even after finishing a number of missions, your health meter will go only upto five. This means that you will have to depend more on your minions, as they are large in number and can launch a team attack on those enemies when they are least expecting it. But the few puzzles in the game can prove to be a bit dumb.
THE LOYAL GOBLIN DISCIPLES You will have the control of four kinds of minions. They can be spawned from spawning pits, as each type of minions have different spawning pits. The number of minions will be shown at the top of the spawning pit. The first type of minions are the browns who are the fighters and the first type of minions you will encounter in the game. They are excellent fighters and can do better if they get some armour. So it is always recommended to have some of them in the squad. We can have more of them ready for spawning if we take some life force from the sheeps itself, thus making it easier to have more of them.
The next type you will encounter will be the reds who are also called the fire starters because of their ability to create or extinguish fire, thus helping us to go past the fire barriers. They also have a powerful ranged attack, but not always accurate with moving targets. So they can be used in the rear end of the squad, but you will have to protect them from the melee attacks. You may find them useful on various occasions, so its better to have atleast one of them always in the squad. But they may be more difficult to get because of less life force in the normal landscape.
The third type of minions which you will come across will e the greens who may also be referred to as the stealth army on some occasions. They are famous for their stealth and can also be considered as some kind of asassins because of their ability to stay unseen and attack enemies from behind. They can attack from behind and finish even the bigger opponents very fast. They are also immune to poison and get rid of those dangerous substances for us. Their life forces can be found from the land of the elves easily and they may be the most useful units in the elf land.
The blues are the last type of minions you will encounter and the most interesting ones. They seems to have some looks of a merman or something, and they can travel through water, but they are the weakest of minions and may die even before you know they are no more. Their attacks may cause no damage to most of the opponents exclusing the magical wisps. Their powes also include healing or reviving dead minions, and this is the one thing which you may be interested in. When there ae more types of minions and more numbers of them, the game can be a bit confusing, and controls may get ridiculous, but practice makes the situation better.
THE WORLD OF AN OVERLORD You will always start the game from your tower where you will have lots of interesting areas, like the arena where you can fight against any opponent you have beaten before, and there are more interesting areas like a vault where your gold is stored, like the old Ducktales story, and yo can also buy various items to beautify your tower. Finding various items for the tower may also form some of the first few quests you have to take care of. There is also the four minion hives as well as the forge where you can make new weapons or upgrade the existing ones.
You may need to sacrifice your minions for this, and the more you sacrifice, the better the results will be. The minions are always prepared to be sacrificed, and the result of the forging also depends on what kind of minion you sacrifice and what item you are creating or upgrading, like the greens can add regeneration to the armour and the browns can increase the damage your mighty axe can do. The health and mana increase during those quests will also involve sacrificing your loyal minions, which is advisable if you can find a minion pit soon. Otherwise you can wait to get a health or mana potion.
The great visuals in the game is supported by some interesting sounds, dialogues and music. The dialogues are rich with some twisted evil and also great sense of humor. The water looks the best in the game, and it looks even better in the elf lands. The voice of even the minions are good, and the opponents can only sound better. The multiplayer side of the game isn't too bright, but there is the option for playing in the internet too. This game is really worth a try, and yo may get used to its environment and controls fast, and if you can manage those minions well, you will find this game stealing most of your time.
Advantages: great game mechanics animation and graphics Disadvantages: too short only 35 hours of gamplay
ok, where to start.
overlord has been in the build for a few years now. coming into the spotlight mere months ago the once sceptical critics have found the pickmin style game to be a whole lot more. the game is set in an unknown time, where there once was an overlord (you) who ruled the land. but a group of seven heroes overthrew you and destroyed your domain. however there power went to there heads and corruption overthrew them, you must now awake ... ...are four main maps in overlord and each one plays on various fairytales and storeys. during the course of the storey you will also discover the additional desert map. although the maps seem small in theory its quite easy to get lost in practice, as along with the main roads there are pathways and rivers to follow, alowwing access to various missions and places. the linear game style is broken up making the game seem free roam which greatly adds to ...

Advantages: Good Fun Disadvantages: Not evil enough
I can honestly say that Overlord has been a new and refreshing experience for a hardened gamer like myself (by hardened i mean someone who spends most of his free time gaming, and the rest thinking about gaming). Sad heh?
Although the idea behind the game (being as bad as you can in a fantasy world) is similar to some previous well known tiltles there are details which i find compelling.
Firstly the story. Simple but effective is the phrase which ... ...old one was beaten by a band of heroes and his tower of evil destroyed. Your task is to gain revenge over those heroes who are now a little evil themselves and restore the glory of your evil tower tower.
Gameplay is fun as you complete your come back with the aid of loyal minions. These minions obey your every command as you explore the attractive landscape completing missions. They are so loyal that they litterally jump into a fire if you send ...

Advantages: You will keep playing it for healthy period Disadvantages: Very high requirements even though, in some countries its cover says something else
The game is evil alright ! you start from a destroyed castle with a side kick cute goblin, and another cute joker goblin to practice your fighting skills on even though later in the game you have access to gladiator arena. The story line is great and fun, basically you want to be EVIL ! but instead you help people in a evil way and people are the main source of your missions from time to time, not just that you can create armies of different kinds ... ...powers.The games graphics are great, sounds are also great, but I dont understand why have they rated it to be difficult, I personally did not find it to be complex or difficult its a simple game with a load of fun, the only downside is that it cannot run on computers slower then 1.0 Gs, 256 Ram, 128 VGA ! ...

Chaos Overlords... hehe.
What shall I say?
A brief description: you take control of a criminal organisation in the far future. Your objective - to wipe out the competition and take control of a grid based city full of scum and mutants, terrorising the population as you go. Hire and equip gangs ranging from mutant kung-fu monks to disco freaks, from the Sewer Rats to the Bankers, and use them to take control of city sectors, cause chaos (and get money), attack rival overlords' gangs and 'influence' enterprises such as night clubs, casinos, research centres and condos. Not only does each gang have a unique combination of abilites, and therefore combat methods, but also it's own unique style, given by its brief critique and excellent artwork.
I recommend this game to anyone into turn based strategy. Not only is it atmospheric ...

Advantages: good as an example of how not to make a game Disadvantages: everything i can think of
This game should have been a board game, because it is about that much fun. Actually, I have had some good times playing monopoly - none playing this. It was a Christmas present you see... and I wish I had the guts to ask for the receipt so I could have taken the damn thing back. It is based around a board-game style cubed board and you never see any of the 'killer combat' you are meant to be in control of. It is the computer version of stratego, if you are blind and like post-modernism. It has no origionality or staying value. ...
Morally ambiguous characters are all the rage in video games nowadays, but they always tend to be violent crime games. This is essentially a cross between the old Dungeon Keeper games and Nintendo's Pikmin, where you play a Sauron-like dark lord in a fantasy world fill of so many corrupt and unpleasant people you often end up playing the de facto hero. Like Pikmin this is a mix of third person action game and a real-time strategy, the obvious difference being you're now in charge of a horde of goblins instead of cute little flower creatures.Although you directly control your bad self in the game you've only got some simple axe attacks and magic spells. Instead your main interaction with the world is via your goblin minions. You can either target an enemy and tell them to attack or control the biggest group directly with the right stick. One of the main currencies in the game then is lifeforce, with which you can instantly generate a new minion. This can be obtained from some enemies, and also sheep, but also from innocent villagers if you want to be really nasty. Although the game may lack moral complexities the capacity for strategy is more developed, as you eventually gain the ability to set ambushes and cast spells on minions. The game's graphics are generally attractive, even with a jarringly short draw distance, but it's the gameplay that really impresses here with something genuinely out of the ordinary in terms of both strategy and motivation.Harrison DentDiscover how corruptible you are in Overlord, the twisted fantasy action adventure where you can be evil (or really evil). In the game's seriously warped fantasy world, players will become the Overlord and get first-hand experience of how absolute power corrupts absolutely". You could be a regular run-of-the-mill Overlord. However, with incredible power at your disposal and a team of evil-minded impish critters, the Minions, on hand to do your bidding, how will you resist the temptation to be wonderfully despotic?!The Overlord has the power of concentrated badness right from the start and you'll know how much more of a total bad-ass you're becoming as the game tracks your 'corruption' throughout. How corrupt you become depends on how you handle any given situation, your actions and how their consequences impact the game world. For example, if you and your minion horde dispose of a bunch of particularly nasty, violent Halflings that have overrun a once-peaceful village, the village's original peasant occupants will herald you as their liberator. Now each time you pass through, the peasants will welcome you as their new lord and protector, cheering your arrival and giving you offerings. However, as an Overlord, it's worth seeing what more can be obtained from the peasants' gratitude. If you exert some proper feudal repression, they'll tremble and fall to their knees when you're in town. If you become truly mean, the poor peasants will resort to cowering in your presence, pray for their lives and even offer up their daughters in order to appease you.
