    Ovranightmare!

This is the first pill I've tried...and perhaps the last!

The first few days were fine...I was on my period but was relatively unbothered and even felt fine to go shopping. However on about the 4th day of taking it, things started to go a little bad. I only took the pill for 7 days before having to stop it, I was ready to jump out of the window and I'm sure my boyfriend would have happily pushed me! I got majorly irritable and snapped at everything he said, lost my sense of humour entirely and would cry at least twice an evening for no reason whatsoever... the rest of the day I would sit around feeling numb and depressed, I couldn't be bothered with anything, not even watching the tv....my preferred activity of the day was staring at the carpet! I couldn't feel positive about anything...I'd just moved into a wonderful new appartment with my boyfriend and it should've been a happy week and all I could do was stare at the unpacked boxes!

On top of this I would have random sudden headaches, had really bad nausea and felt constantly tired. After a full day of nausea and even vomitting, I stopped taking the pill after a week of it, and within the 36 hours of stopping it, the side affects stopped.

I would recommend that if you are starting any pill that you investigate what it contains and what levels. Ovranette contains 150 micrograms of Levonorgestrel which is a form of progesterone. I would recommend reading this article: http://www.aphroditewomenshealth.com/news/hormones_depression.shtml

whic h explores the link between progesterone and mental health problems.

It's pretty extreme stuff and when it comes down to it, you're completely changing the levels of hormones in your body and you should be grateful if you don't experience some change to your body and mind!

But that's been my experience and I hope that in the future I can find a suitable contraceptive for me...that doesn't involve latex!

Try microgynon. That's the standard pill most GPs will give you a prescription for. I was on it for three years without any problems at all.
