Advantages: That old cliche - the more you put in the more you get out Disadvantages: The amount you need to put in can make life stressful
Oxford University. Well, what can I say that hasn't already been said already in the last month or so? The brouhaha surrounding Laura Spence's rejection has died down but the image of Oxford has suffered yet another blow to its reputation as an elitist institution. My opinion on this is that of course Oxford is an elitist institution ? places of excellence have to be. My application was something unusual - comprehensive school education, 5 years experience in the Army as a private, only 2 A-levels and a 'what-the-hell' application to one of the best Oxford colleges. So much for snobbery. Having been accepted, I started to build up an impression of what it was going to be like and, apart from my very brief visit for interviews, all my impressions naturally came from views propounded by the media. On reflection, these were mostly ...
Advantages: A chance to see the Peppers perform some of their best songs live on stage. Disadvantages: Some of the travel scenes can be repetitive and monotonous.
Being a life long fan of the Red Hot Chili Peppers - in all their incarnations - I assumed that this DVD would be just like the band themselves; funny, funky and fabulous.
However, while I enjoyed the majority of the DVD, with the live show taking up the bulk of the playing time, I was a little disappointed by the interviews. While they all talk candidly about their experiences of playing live, life, travel and relationships, it would have been nice to see more of the Peppers together as people rather than as a band, and less of Kiedis' girlfriend draping herself all over him.
The DVD includes individual interviews with each band member - Flea, Frusciante, Smith and Kiedis an extra long version of 'Sir Pyscho Sexy' and lots of on-stage banter - including Kiedis encouraging the girls to get mohawks after the show!
In conclusion ...
Advantages: Some good hit singles Disadvantages: Mixed album tracks

The album was written in the aftermath of the death of Diana, Princess of Wales and Mick was clearly very sad.
There are covers and new material and in lots of ways, it's rather like an "easy listening" album. There's not really a "band" feel to this cassette at all.

Track one "Mellow My Mind" sets the tone for the whole album. It's a very reflective song about a journey ...
