I know this isn't a new product but it is one of my favourite solutions to stain removal all around the house so, just in case you haven't already heard of it, or tried it, I thought I would review it.

Well there used to be a simple answer to that question in that it was a powder which you mixed with water to provide an answer to your cleaning problems - now it appears to be a brand name for a whole range of products, all working on the same basis, to get your house clean. Personally I am happy to stick with the tub of powder and mix it into a solution to do all of the cleaning jobs rather than to pay extra to have someone mix and package it for me. I am writing this review about the Oxi Clean Powder in a tub. It costs around £3 for a 500g tub and to me it is worth its weight in gold.
Oxi Clean is a high-energy, biodegradable stain remover that will cope with virtually any cleaning challenge. It harnesses the cleaning and deodorising power of oxygen to attack all sorts of stains resulting from wine, juice and pets; it will also make tile grout look like new. You can also add a scoop to every load of laundry to remove marks - even on colourfast fabrics.
Sounds good but I wanted to know more so I looked it up on Wikipedia and discovered "OxiClean is a sodium percarbonate (C2H6Na4O12) detergent and bleaching agent which produces hydrogen peroxide when dissolved in water. OxiClean works through hydrogen peroxide molecules bound within a sodium carbonate structure. Hydrogen peroxide is a strong oxidizing substance which will "bleach" the stains away."
Apparently "a stain is generally composed of chemical compounds which absorb certain wavelengths of light to make it a certain color. OxiClean changes the structure of molecules in a stain so that they no longer absorb different wavelengths of light. Essentially the color is bleached out of the stain, rendering the stain unable to absorb visible light, making the stain effectively invisible, i.e., becoming transparent like water to light. While not actually "miraculous," this can have the effect of making the stain appear to vanish."
Fascinating if you want to understand the science of it - but how effective is it in reality?
How do you use it? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I love its stain removing properties and to be honest I find the way it remove stains almost magical - I still find it somewhat unbelieveable. I first saw it demonstrated on QVC. They mix some with water in a container and then take stained items of clothing like a child's bib and a t shirt and immerse them in the water for a few minutes, when they lift them out the stain is gone and the water still looks clear - where does that stain go? Even more impressive they go to a piece of carpet with is stained and spray the Oxi Clean solution on to half the stain and leave it - when they come back the stain is gone.
I was fascinated and curious but it wasn't until I saw it in Lakeland that I actually bought any. (You can now buy it in most supermarkets). I was really curious to try it out and I used it on a few minor stains and it worked. I also use it if I spill something on my clothes and it pulls the stain out without any rubbing or scrubbing, just spray it on and the stain disappears - great if you are dashing off to work and suddenly spot a stain. I once went out for dinner in a brand new jumper only to have someone spill red wine on it on its first outing. No worries - just a quick soak in Oxi Clean when I got home and the stain was gone.
I bought a new house which had cream carpets upstairs. There were little brown stains all over the bedroom carpet which looked like mascara or eyeliner which had been dripped there. I thought I might need to replace the carpet it looked so bad but I went round with the Oxi Clean in a spray bottle and when I went back fifteen minutes later they were gone!
To me, even after using it for three or four years, I am still fascinated about how it does it - where does that stain disappear to? I don't know, but I do know it goes. One day I got a black grease stain on some sand coloured trousers and I thought they would be a 'write off' - to be fair the Oxi Clean really did struggle with that one and I had to apply it and soak the trousers a number of times before it was truly gone and in the end it did lighten the trousers a little which you can tell if I wear them with the matching jacket. That is the only thing I have found to defeat it and even then I can (and do) still wear the trousers.
The good people at Oxi Clean recommend the following:
As a Laundry booster - Add to every load with detergent. A colorsafe alternative to chlorine bleach!
Begin filling washer with proper temperature water for your load (see garment care tag). Add OxiClean and detergent before adding clothes. Add 1 oz per small load. Add 2 oz per medium load. Add 4 oz per large/heavily soiled load.
As a General Stain Remover Mix up to 1 oz per 16 oz water to create a solution. For water washable upholstery, fabrics and surfaces, apply solution to stain. Allow solution to stand 1 to 5 minutes. Blot well with a white towel. Repeat as required. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry.
As a Carpet Spot Remover Mix up to 1 oz per 16 oz water to create a solution. Remove excess liquid before treating stain. Apply solution to stain. Use only enough to saturate stain. Allow solution to stand 1 to 5 minute. Blot well with white towel. Repeat as required. Rinse thoroughly with water and blot well. Allow to dry, then vacuum.
For Soaking Applications Mix 2 to 4 oz per gallon of water. Add item. Allow item to soak for 1 to 6 hours. Remove item and rinse or wash thoroughly.
For Outdoor Usages such as awnings, siding, lawn furniture and decks Mix 1 to 4 oz per gallon of water. Pour or sponge onto surface from bucket. Allow solution to stand 5 to 30 minutes. Scrub as required. Rinse well with cool water. Work small area so that your solution doesn’t dry on the surface.
Personally I don't add it to my wash unless I have a particular problem but then I am an adult, those with young children may need to use it more often. I don't tend to measure the mixture either, I just put a little powder in a hand spray and add water and keep it on hand in my kitchen so it is ready when I need it. A tub lasts me for ages but I wouldn't want to be without it.
Would I recommend it? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yes I would. It is the best stain removed I have ever had and it hasn't let me down yet. It is made by the same people who make Orange Glo and for me it does what it says on the packet.
Advantages: Removes every stain there is Is reasonably priced Will last for a long time Disadvantages: There isn't any
Let me start by saying, I bought this product off QVC. I watched the demonstartion, and was gobsmacked. I didn't believe that a cleaning product could really do everythind they were saying, so I watched and ordered.
I bought a tub of oxiclean for £4.99. The tub holds 1134g (2.5lb). A good size tub, for the money.

Advantages: It saved me having to buy a new carpet Disadvantages: None
I’m amazed I haven’t tried Oxi Clean before. I’m one of these people that seem to have fairly disastrous accidents causing stainage a-plenty on many items. I can’t remember how many clothes have been ruined by black tea or tomato ketchup but despite this one stain remover I have never tried is Oxi Clean.
However, I was forced to give it a go when one of my more spectacular accidents happened just three days after selling ... ...accent sprung to mind – Oxi Clean. It can supposedly clean years of built in dirt off planks of wood. Surely it’s going to have a reasonable effect on tomatoes.
During my next shop later in the week I picked up the smaller tub of Oxi Clean. It comes in two sizes – 500g and 1kg. These were priced at £3.19 and around the £5 mark respectively from Asda.
So, here it was. My only hope of cleaning up the stain that had now completely ...

...QVC.
I found Oxi Clean had an offer for £14.99 this offer included one 453g tub of Oxi Clean Laundry Detergent and a huge tub 1814g of Oxi Clean Multi Purpose Stain Remover, one squirty bottle, 2 lids and a cloth. Delivery was £3.95 which boosted this purchase up to just under the £20 mark, but when I compared it to the number of bottles of stain remover that I have purchased in the past, this could only be a winner.
The Tubs are blue in colour ... ...gone for good.
Oxi Clean Multi Purpose cleaner has a wide range of uses some of which I have given a go, this afternoon we went strawberry picking and my daughter decided she had had enough and wanted to sit down right in the middle of the patch with her basket and set to eating as many strawberries as humainly possible resulting in her white shorts with squashed strawberries attached to her bum. Applied the solution and within 3 minutes the stain ...

Advantages: Cleans almost any stain out of anything! Disadvantages: What disadvantages?
...the ads on tv for oxi clean.
Someone shows you a stain that looks like it will never shift, sprays some oxi clean dissolved in water and it vanishes as if by magic.
They squirt dye into a bowl of water and drop in a white sock then sprinkle in a scoop of oxi clean and hey presto the water turns white and the sock stays white.
Most of us have probably said it won't work like that once the cameras turn off, it's a con. Right?
Wrong!!
Oxi clean ... ...There is no bleach in oxi clean, that's not how it works. You dilute it in hot water and it fizzes and the little bubbles that it lets of attacks stains.
It is safe to use without rubber gloves although they do recommend you use them, covering their own backs just in case. I have fairly sensitive skin but this doesn't affect me at all.
There is no smell to the product either before of after diluting.
It can be mixed in hot water as I said and ...

Advantages: Works brilliantly. Disadvantages: None.
If you are wearing a pure white silk scarf and you spill red wine on it and shove it in your hand bag for around the six hours that is left of your night out then forget to take it out till about three o clock the following afternoon it is ruined right? Wrong not when you have OxiClean Multi-Purpose Stain Remover to hand.
This stuff was recommended to me by a friend of a friend when I told them about my torment at what had happened to my £40 scarf. I bought a tub of it the next day and set to work on getting the stain out of my scarf (never really believing it would work).
The instructions on the little blue and white tub were simple to follow and follow them I did, "use the scoop supplied inside the tub, 1 scoop = 2 tablespoons". For general stain removal I needed one eighth of a scoop mixed in 500ml of very hot water, I thought ...

Advantages: Easy To Use Disadvantages: Contains Bleach
I often browse through the cleaning products when i do my weekly shop, i always like to try out new and/or agents, I love my house to smell clean, and decided to try Oxy-Gel, and although it's not that new, it is to me as I have never used this before.
**********
Packaging - Comes in a clear plastic container, with a spray nozzle at the top, and pink in colour as I chose "Wild Orchid" fragranced.

Ingrediants - as per labe are oxygen-based bleaching agent, soap non-ionic surfactants.
Instructions - Spray onto surface, leave for a few seconds and then wipe away with a damp cloth.

Advantages: Big value tub and just as effective as the name brands Disadvantages: None that I have seen
In our household we have always got a house full of kids - not to mention a steady stream of guys coming through for a game of footie and what not so we are rarely without a load of washing in the machine. Before this current economic climate we always used vanish oxy action - our weekly shop included a tub for coloured loads and a tub for whites which set us back a pretty penny. Recently we have been forced by circumstance to review our shopping and so I thought we would try Oxiclean.
I will admit to being dubious at first, one tub for coloured or whites? and at half the price the tub is bigger too. We were not dissapointed at all. I simply add a scoop to each load of washing and every single time the clothes come out bright and clean - the whites are white and the coloureds are clean and most definately still coloureds.
The real ...
