A small tube containing 20g of cream cost me £4.50. The price may vary from city to city, most things tend to be dearer around the London way. But if you’re one of ... ...effective since I started using Oxy On The Spot, is covering my spots with the cream and simply leaving it on while I have a bath, and massaging it in (or what’s left of it) some 15 minutes later. It probably depends on your skin type, but I find it works for me because my skin is fairly greasy and the cream, when left on, has a drying effect which in turn, dries out my spots, calming them down and making them less noticeable.
Apparently chocolate doesn’t cause spots. Which is a pretty good thing for me, because I can quite happily get through several bars a day. I still get spots though. Some days they’re not too bad and can be quite easily covered up with a dab of make up. Other days I look in the mirror and just feel like hiding under my duvet for the rest of my life. I feel a bit like that at the moment.
In my case, I know for a fact, ie, from years and years of experience, that my spots are always far worse during periods of extreme stress, pressure or unhappiness. I’m not going to go into it here, but with one thing or another, the last couple of months haven’t exactly been easy for me. And oh how my face has suffered for it.
A few weeks back, in my desperation, I made a frantic dash to Boots in a hunt for a new, and hopefully effective spot cream that would make me look half human again. My eye was instantly attracted to Oxy On The Spot. It looked fairly sleek in a small silver coloured tube, and told me exactly what I wanted to hear, that it provided ‘direct action treatment for spots’. ‘Direct’ sounded promising, it also sounded quick. Just what I needed.
A small tube containing 20g of cream cost me £4.50. The price may vary from city to city, most things tend to be dearer around the London way. But if you’re one of those clever Boots advantage card owners, you may be able to get away with paying zilch.
Off home I dashed, and straight to the bathroom where I seem to spend most of my life at the moment. And out came the instructions. Now sometimes I like to think I know better, I mean, it’s cream, it’s for spots, what exactly do you need to be told. I’ll warn you now, be wary of such over confidence. It’s not simply a case of find (or choose) spot, dab on cream, wait, oh look, a clear, spot free face. (I wish!!!)
Now the instructions clearly state the following:
1) Cleanse and dry the face before application. Make sure you cleanse as thoroughly as possible. Splashing your face with water doesn’t count, you do actually need to get rid of every trace of makeup and dirt. And when you dry your face, dab it gently, don’t rub, even if you are in a hurry. Rubbing when you’ve got spots, is a very very bad idea.
2) Gently massage the cream into the spots until fully absorbed. Ok, firstly only use a very very small amount, the size of a pea should do it. NEVER spread the cream all over your face as it will totally dry your skin out and bring you out in a horrible red rash. Only apply directly to the actual spots. And massage very gently until there is no visible trace of cream left. Sometimes this does take a while, but patience is a virtue and all that.
Something I’ve actually found quite effective since I started using Oxy On The Spot, is covering my spots with the cream and simply leaving it on while I have a bath, and massaging it in (or what’s left of it) some 15 minutes later. It probably depends on your skin type, but I find it works for me because my skin is fairly greasy and the cream, when left on, has a drying effect which in turn, dries out my spots, calming them down and making them less noticeable.
After massaging the cream into your spots, it is a good idea to apply a small amount of your normal moisturiser, just to combat the dryness. This is especially helpful if your skin is on the dry side, as you don’t want to encourage flakiness.
Oxy On The Spot does actually feel as though it’s doing something. The cream is fairly thick and it is quite satisfying to see it gradually absorb itself into your skin. Occasionally it can produce a tingling sensation. Don’t worry, this is a good thing.
So, how effective is Oxy On The Spot?
Well, this is where I start to become negative. In the short term, ie, while you’re applying the cream, and in the hours following application, you may well be lulled into thinking, wow, I can really feel this working. However, fast forward to the next morning, sleepy me crawls out of bed towards the bathroom mirror...
BIG RED SCARY SPOT ALERT!!!!!!!!
I was not happy. Especially as I had an interview that morning, and no matter how much foundation I layered on my face, those BIG RED SCARY SPOTS just wouldn’t stop glaring through.
Well, I made it through the interview and decided that maybe I was being a little too hasty, and niave, expecting Oxy On The Spot to work so instantly. I’d give it a couple of weeks.
Cue a couple of weeks, and here we are, today, sunny Saturday 28 September. And how are my spots doing? Well, terribly to be honest. I haven’t had them this bad since I was a teenager.
So, I’m sorry Oxy On The Spot, but I am totally unimpressed. You seemed so promising, I thought you would solve all my problems, soothe my worried brow and turn me into a super model, but quite simply all you have done is let me down like an inflated balloon, and I have no choice but to fling you into the nearest dustbin. Oh, an important piece of information, just in case you ignore my advice and don’t read the instructions...Oxy On The Spot contains bleach, and will stain your clothes. Be warned!
Advantages: Works (well, after a while :), nicely packaged Disadvantages: Very expensive
...strength. Then I came across Oxy on the Spot. To be honest, its not a cure all and it wont work over night, but it does work in the long run. Its best used on individual spots rather than a whole area of skin, as this may irritate it.
So what does it look like?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It is nicely packaged in a silver box about 4 inches long. And has the Oxy on the spot logo in red and yellow on the front (sounds horrid, but isnt that bad :). Once ... ...stocking most of the popular Oxy range. The cost really depends on where you purchase it from. At Asda, at the moment, it £4, which is pretty expensive. I guess that Boots may offer it at around the same price. It is quite expensive, but again, as its for individual spots, it should last quite a while.
So whats in it? What gets rid of the spots?
The main ingredient is benzoyl peroxide, which is basically a type of ...
Advantages: I suppose its good if you have sensitive skin, good packaging Disadvantages: Expensive considering it doesn't work very well, other products work better
...acne is not through using Oxy on the Spot.
Oxy on the Spot is one of the many SmithKline Beecham products available and is rather expensive at just over £4 for a small, thin tube. Like Oxy 5 – Advanced formula (I’ve wrote an opinion on it if your interested) Oxy on the Spot contains benzoyl peroxide – which is a form of bleach. Oxy on the Spot is 2.5% benzoyl peroxide whereas Oxy 5 is 5% benzoyl peroxide. So your paying pretty much the same price ... ...I would always recommend using Oxy 5 as it is a stronger cream and gets rid of spots better than Oxy on the Spot.
Oxy on the Spot is also rather messy; the cream takes a long time to rub in and leaves your skin feeling greasy. Oh and a word of warning – even if you have really bad spots/acne do NOT rub in Oxy on the Spot, Oxy 5 or any other similar cream all over your face. That is unless you want your skin feeling very dry and a possible rash. ...
Advantages: Does dry the little things up a bit quicker Disadvantages: Doesn't work miracles
Why, oh why, oh why does it always happen?
You know what I mean...... the day you plan to do something out of the ordinary (or not so in my case, i'll explain later) you wake up and feel that little tingling sensation.....
"OH NO"
is usually the normal response....
then, sure enough, after confirming it for yourself in the mirror, you've got one of those little red blighters staring back at you.
People no longer talk to you, they talk to *IT*.
... ...planning to have a photo taken for my provisional license [yes, I know i'm nearly 18 and i've had a whole year to do this, but there we go!]. But this little blighter gives me one extra excuse not to go and sit myself in a photo booth! (hehehe!)
Anyway, back onto the product in question.
First things first:
~ Does it work!?!?! ~
This is the most important question of all. And the answer? Yes and a bit of no. If your expecting miracles then please ...
Advantages: dries the spot up. gits rid of them faster than if you had left it on its own. Disadvantages: greasy. not always effective!
...on the spot! Oxy on the spot is a SmithKline Beecham product. The active ingredient which dries the spot up is benzoyl peroxide (2.5% to be precise) Expect to pay about £4 for a 20g tube. I have had my tube for ages, since I put it on the occasional spot. Its pretty good packaging for a zit cream! The silver background and the bold logo really stand out. Its what actually caught my eye on the shelf when I first went shopping for a spot cream.I have ... ...the time, every time.
Oxy on the spot can be found on the shelf but I feel a more effective cream is required. Oxy 5 – which has 5% benzoyl peroxide content – is sold behind the counter. It is a similar price as oxy on the spot and I think I’m going to try it out!
On the whole, oxy on the spot is not for me. I would not recommend it but then it didn’t work for me but who says it might not work for others??!! Im going to ...
Advantages: it works Disadvantages: very very very expensive for only 20g.
...This product is called Oxy On The Spot.
It comes in a tube that is about the length of the mouse on your computer (looking for something that you can easily compare the size of it to, thats the best i could do!)
The tube is supplied in a silver box, when I say silver, you can almost see your face in this thing.
On the box is the words 'OXY' in big pink capital letters, and then in yellow, 'ON THE SPOT' in yellow capitals on a blue background.
... ...This is in the form of a white cream.
---HOW DOES IT FEEL ON YOUR FACE?--- It may sting you when you first use it but I see this as a good thing as it feels as though those evil little buggers are getting burned!!!
I find it slightly, but very slightly, dries the skin out.
---WHAT IS THE PRICE OF IT?---
I payed a whopping £4.99 for this cream, I was desparate. I got it in Tesco, as I have said, but today, I bought my second tube of it for 84p ...
Advantages: Helps control spots somewhat. Disadvantages: It is hard to tell what difference the cream is making-it could be other factors making your skin improve.
I used to have really bad skin and although it has cleared up a lot now, I still get a few spots. Not bad enough to go to the doctors about, but bad enough to feel self-concious about.
I'm a student and can't afford expensive treatments so when I saw in Superdrug they were doing 1/3 off all Oxy products I decided to buy Oxy Clearout Cream. It cost £2.20 which is not bad but normally costs £3.30. Considering that the 50ml tube has lasted me about 2 months (using the cream twice a day when I remember!) I think it is good value.
You have to apply the cream to a clean face in the morning and evening. It claims to unblock your pores and help to keep your skin clear whilst preventing spots before they develop.
I have found that I have to rub in the cream quickly as it goes dry fast. It has also made my face a little dry and tight ...
Advantages: Brilliant for fighting spots Disadvantages: None
Tea Tree Oil comes from the Tea Tree plant, and the oil is known for its healing and anti-bacterial properties.
When I had spots as a teenager I tried many spotcreams and other products such as clearasil and Oxy to try and get rid of spots, but had no success!
Tea Tree Oil on the other hand (especially Body Shop's facial wash), got rid of my spots and kept them away. I was amazed!
It comes in small containers with a black flip cap. The Tea Tree Oil is green and has smells quite nice. It recommends to wash twice a day with it, I find washing just once a day using it does the job fine. Keeps the face refreshed for hours!
It is slightly more expensive than other facial washes/creams, but I don't mind paying more for something that works well.
spotcreams!!!
Well one of those behind the counter spotcreams is Oxy benzoyl Peroxide lotion. It comes in two strengths 5 which is known as regular strength and 10 which is obviously known as Strong strength.
I first used Oxy 5 a few weeks ago and although it is known as regular strength it?s a lot stronger than other spotcreams that aren?t behind the counter.
To use, you cleanse your face with a ?deep cleansing? cream wash, Lol and then you rub it into each spot. The first time you use it you will feel it burning, this is normal so don?t worry. You are recommend to use it once a day for the first week or so of having it and then go on to using it morning and night.
For me Oxy 5 worked brilliantly and its cleared up my face and got rid of most of my spots. However as with all of these spotcreams they work for some people ...
