Rome: Total War
Advantages: Infectious game playing in a realistic strategy format. Disadvantages: You have to put it down sometime.
This innovative PC game is well researched historically and thoroughly absorbing. Set during the tumultuous times of ancient Rome, it allows the player to take part in imperial campaigns or in set piece battles. You can choose to play the part of a Roman general or the leader of an invading force, such as Celts or ancient Germans. The system allows you to select from a range of different forces for your army, from slingers, spearmen and archers to ... ...using tactics and strategy typical of the time, with varying levels of difficulty to choose from. My own favourites are the Germanic berserkers, who are depicted in bearskins and woad, with huge clubs. The system enables you to send these shock troops into a superhuman rage that often proves more than a match for the Romans. Great fun. ...

The last of Strategy
Advantages: user friendly . extreme graohics option Disadvantages: none
Our hands-on preview of Imperium Romanum we finally have the chance to revisit the glory of Rome through the eyes of the final build. Much of what was said in the preview holds true here,, being at once incredibly deep and historically accurate yet also streamlined and extremely user-friendly. If you're at all interested in Roman history, or indeed just want to give the strategy genre a tryout, you can do far worse than to give this some time.
So, ... ...city-building game, pure and simple. Whilst there are three different single-player modes to get stuck into (more on those later), each one essentially boils down to laying out buildings and resources in your chosen pattern, and attempting to resolve the need for wealth and expansion whilst keeping your citizens happy and safe. It's a balancing act right away though, with even the tiniest decisions bringing about consequences further down the line.

Traps range from air turbines in the wall to blast intruders back the way they came through to tesla coils and gun turrets in a slightly less subtle form of defence. Each mission has certain different ... ...old now I thoroughly believe it is one that can stand the test of time, it's just as playable now as it was when released and if you haven't tried it you should give it a go. Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne - Good Offline, Great Online!
Advantages: Excellent multiplayer, Loads of variety, Great replayability. Disadvantages: Retro graphics, Internet required if you really want to reap the benefits of this game.
...time I log onto battlenet, Warcraft 3's in-game multiplayer service, I'm discovering a variety of new and fun games. Let's start with the singleplayer... personally, I found this fun for a while but kind of what I expected. Most levels involve building some kind of base responsible of producing units to go and destroy an enemy base, or achieve some given objective. These tend to vary quite considerably but the formula remains pretty much the same, ... ...I must first explain that Warcraft 3 ships with a program called the 'World Editor' which allows you to make your own map that you can play on battlenet with other people. The level of customisation is huge and it has turned the whole 'base building' idea on its head. There are games of Chess, Battleships, Dragon Ball Z, Resident Evil, and many others. There are a lot of themed games that have become popular such as Tower Defences where you and possibly ...
