this is a great entry level laptop. great as a second computor, I bought this as a second computer for studying whilst out of the house. with an intel celeron m430 1.7ghz processor, 256mb ddrii ram (upto 128mb shared with the on board graphics) this is not built for performance, it will struggle with programs, games or applications that rely heavily on 3d graphics but for general use it does the job.
If bought as a second computer it can be connected to a router via the built in ethernet card or if you have a wireless router the built in railink wireless network interface card makes networking a doddle for beginners and experts alike.
if the 13.3" tft screen is a bit small you do have a tv out (s-video) port on the side or a vga out port to connect to another monitor.
it also has 3 usb 2.0 ports if you want to add any periferals, the onboard sound card has a headphone out and a mic in jack on the front of the laptop aswell as built in speakers located to each side of the top of the compact keyboard.
the 40gb sata hard drive comes preloaded with windows xp home (c), microsoft works, cyberlink dvd and cyberlink power2go software to watch dvd's and make cd's or dvd's of your own using the dvdrom/cd-rw drive located to the left side of the sleek black laptop. also installed is norton internet security suite 2006 although once registered you only get a 30 day licence after which you will have to pay for a 12 month licence, there are some good free firewall and antivirus suites available so my advice is to install your 30 day trial and then download a free firewall for use after the 30 days (you must uninstall norton internet suite before installing a new firewall to prevent conflicts).
the detailed manual is installed as a pdf file on the hard drive.
this product is ideal for any one who wants a basic, low cost laptop. for surfing the internet, students research, email, creating and working with office files, simple graphics applications and general computing. not suitable for any one who regularly works with 3d graphics applications or serious gaming. it is relatively simple to upgrade the memory chips, or hard drive if you want to improve the performance but the processor can not be upgraded.
