I went to PC World looking a Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback steering wheel. I thought they would sell it there, being a big superstore chain selling computers. First impressions on entering the store was good, it was big and lots of products were on display. Lots of software took half the store, hardware and accessories the other half, and computer systems at the back, so I thought it would be easy to find my steering wheel. Was I wrong.
I spent about 20 minutes looking high and low for the steering wheels, but they were nowhere to be found. I wasn't thinking about asking an assistant, as I'd expect the steering wheels to be easily found somewhere, as I'm in a large computer store. Eventually, I have found an assistant, as most of them were at the back of the store.
"Excuse me, where are the steering wheels?" "Over there" came the vague reply, with a finger pointing at the front of the store.
I went back there still looking around for a further 5 minutes or so, and on the floor there were a couple of boxes with what looked like steering wheels in them. They weren't the steering wheels I wanted, so what a waste of time. The assistant didn't even tell me they only had one type of steering wheel and not the one I wanted, and he didn't even bother to get up and show me where they were.
I went out thinking the journey was a waste of time. Next to PC World was Currys, and I was deciding whether to go in there or not, as they are a electrical retailer, not exactly specialising in computers but other things like, TVs, fridges, cookers etc. I walked towards Currys not expecting to find anything and come out again. Walking into the store I was surprised to see a row of about five or so steering wheels on display near the entrance. What a surprise! I found the right steering wheel and happily paid for it.
It was quite interesting to know that the assistant in PC World didn't know they only had one model of steering wheel, and he should have directed me to Currys where they had five all on display if I couldn't find the one I wanted For a steering wheel the last place I would go is Currys as I would expect PC World to sell a range of them. Judging from the service I've got and views of other people's experience at PC World, I would think twice about going to PC World to buy a computer or computer related accessories.
