I actually have alot of sympathy for the staff at PC World. I think that the majority of them have no interest in computers whatsoever, if they did, they would understand and explain the products they sell better. I don't think it's their fault. I think that they only take a job at PC World because Burger hasn't got any vacancies at the moment. Maybe that's a bit cruel but every time I go into my local store I feel like running amok with an uzzi. I can never get anyone to serve me, if I do they talk twaddle and God help me if I need to return anything. I think as a group of staff they avoid me on purpose. Maybe its not just me and they avoid customers full stop. Whenever I go in there, they always gravitate towards the novice users and fill their heads full of useless nonsense and empty their wallets. Recently I listened to a conversation between a customer looking to buy a digital camera and the advisor, I'll summarise below:-
Customer "So it's like an ordinary camera then?" staff "Yeah except you store photos on mini floppy disc films" Customer "So i dont need 35mm films anymore?" Staff "No you can even record movies" Customer "Like a camcorder?" Staff "No shorter amounts" Customer "How long" Staff "Depends on what your recording" Customer "What if it was my sons birthday and he was blowing out candles on his cake, could i film that" Staff "It would depend on how quickly he blows"
etc, etc, etc
It angers me the way that they consistently give the wrong info. I think I'll take a cold shower now to calm down.
PC World and what it stands for is great. Price wise I find lots of bargains that beat mail order and internet.(See my review of HP Photosmart 1000 Printer). What Dixons Store Group need to do now is up the wages they pay to sales advisors and then it would be worthwhile computer enthusiasts taking the jobs. Imagine it :-
1)Good Salary 2)Discount on your favouriet goods 3)Spend all day with computers 4)Try before you buy ie play in store before buying 5)Helping the public 6)commission 7)A job you could actually enjoy(its the goal we all search for)
etc, etc, etc
I would enjoy it myself
Come on Dixons sort it out
Come on PC World Staff try to take an interest in what your doing
