Pcworld.co.uk is a great web site for buying computer goods! They have a huge range on offer including computers, laptops, upgrades, and printers, networking equipment plus everything you could possibly associate with all things computers! I've used pcworld.co.uk once and I have written about my experience here. I have also looked at the web site itself and how well it works. I have found from using this web site that it uses the same technology and processes as the dixons.co.uk web site as well as a similar design. I've used Dixons web site too, and these both use the same ordering and delivery options.
My Experience with pcworld.co.uk **************************************
-- First Contact --
I've always used PCWorld to buy my computer equipment including the desktop computer I own at the moment, so I've always checked the PCWorld web site to see what offers they have on. I only decided to use the web site this time because of the recommendations that the customer support gave me by e-mail. I e-mailed customer support with my question about wireless networking and what I would need and any recommendations they could give. They replied within 24 hours and replied to my follow up message in another 24 hours, which is pretty good considering some online support. I took their recommendations and brought a product.
-- What did I buy, how much did I pay and why? --
I brought a wireless networking router, which was priced £37.10 which was an online exclusive (online exclusives are advertised on there home page and the prices are great) and a saving of £12.87 from the shop price. Which is great considering I would need to travel ten miles to get one, but on the downside when you buy online there is a lot of stress involved. Including if your credit card details are safe, if you are going to get your product and you have to wait a while to receive it. PCWorld being a reputable company and being the same as Dixons.co.uk, I felt a lot safer.
-- Postage and Packaging --
Postage and Packing costs were £3.50, which took the price up to £40.60, which is still a good saving. I later found that another web site offered this item cheaper by £3.61 though.
--Delivery Times --
The item came in about 5 days, the transaction was smooth, but a lot of room for improvement.
-- Payment --
I paid through the web site with my debit card and it was your usual inputting of your details and you are also assured that the transaction is secure (you have to take their word for it).
The Web Site pcworld.co.uk **********************************
Here is the part of my review that covers pcworld.co.uk's web site as a web site, for example the navigation, design and ease of use.
-- Design --
The design has the main colours of PCWorld, with a professional layout of a header graphic, a navigational menu on the left and the main content in the middle.
-- Navigation --
The navigation of the web site has recently changed and now offers the content of web site to be access by clicking on the categories in the navigation on the left and then the sub categories appear underneath. A nice navigation system and one I am considering using on my next web site design.
-- Browsing --
Browsing products is made really easy with this web site, you use the navigation like I have overviewed above and once you find a product you like. You can click the corresponding link and it will take you to the product cost, specification and any other information that you might need. The information on products is great and offers a basic overview plus a more detailed opinion.
-- Searching -- Searching is easy on this web site, you can enter a search term or a web site code and it will show all the corresponding products. The search results and categories can be filtered to show results in a certain price range etc.
-- Help Files --
There are lots of clear and useful help files located at the web site and if you can't find the answer to your question than you can contact support through the contact page. I used the customer support for recommendations and they answered my questions within 24 hours.
-- Using the Shopping Cart --
When you find a product you like you can add it to your shopping cart and the shopping cart keeps a running total of what your items in your shopping basket add up to. VAT and Delivery costs are also added.
-- Placing You First Order --
When you place your first order you are asked for all your usual details that are needed when setting up a new account and buying a product. I placed my first order using my debit card and your card details are required straight away so you can complete the transaction. I haven't placed another order don't know if they keep your credit details in your account. You are given an account that you can return back to so you can trace any orders that you have placed, or if you want to look at your order history or update any information about yourself. This works just like the Dixons web site.
-- Confirmation E-mails and Messages --
You are given confirmation e-mails along the way to say that you have placed an order and that your item has been dispatched, which is a very helpful attraction. Some other web sites don't offer this, but when you find a web site that does, it helps put your mind at rest.
-- Other features worth a mention --
The web exclusive deals is the best feature to mention, some great savings can be made.
Pcworld.co.uk offers loads of products all separated into categories that are easy to browse and search. I wouldn't say all their prices are the best, from my experience using price comparison engines to find better prices very often does. This is well-designed web site and is very easy to navigate and find what you need. If you haven't used pcworld.co.uk before, next time you are searching for some computer software and hardware, this is one that shouldn't be overlooked. It has a great reputation on the high street and its not too bad online either. This is a web site I would happily recommend.
