Poor Warranty Service |
|---|
I have an extended warranty agreement for my computer, bought from PC World.
Recently I needed to make use of that warranty so on Tuesday I rang in and was told the computer needed to go to the central repair wharehouse. (Very little is now done in store).
I was told I could have the computer collected on the Sunday or take it to the store where it would be collected on Sunday. I live quite near the store so on Friday I took my computer into the local store in Bradford in time for the Sunday collection. I am told that the earliest collection would be Thursday. After a long conversation I leave the computer at the store but on returning home immediately phone the warranty department again.
I get plenty of sorries for the misinformation but I am told that no improvemet in collection date can be effected. Apparently the in-store system works differently to the phone system.
I am advised that I could collect my computer back from the store then ring in and arrange to have it collected from my home - it MIGHT be collected sooner than Thursday.
But my agreement states that if I contact during the weekend my computer will be collected on Tuesday. "Oh well", I'm told, "But we often update our agreements."
My agreement also states that I can arrange for a technician visit my home within two days to attend to my computer at my home. "Oh well. But we often update our agreements."
So I might get my computer back a week on Friday, seventeen days after I reported the fault, but agreements now say that 42 days is acceptable.
In the meantime my computer will have gone from the Bradford store to the local depot and then to the repair wharehouse, adding a day to the time and then be returned by the reverse route and the timing starts when the computer reaches the repair wharehouse.
Beware.

While what you have written is useful, by focussing just on the warranty you have not made a fully rounded review of the retailer. You do make me glad I didn't take out a warranty myself when I bought a laptop from them.
