Advantages Excellent price, perfect condition, exactly as described, delivered when promised, free warranty
Disadvantages None
I recently bought a refurbished Dell Inspiron 15" laptop for my wife.
I first ordered one from Tesco's Ebay site. It had to go straight back as the DVD drive didn't work when it arrived!
I ordered another one from Tesco's Ebay site. That one went straight back as it was so slow to do the simplest of things there was clearly a major problem with it.
In their defence, Tesco paid the return postage and gave full refunds as soon as they got them back, but ........
I then came across PCWorld's online shop from a Google search for the laptop I wanted. It was a name that I knew of course but I had never been to their internet site before.
They had a good range of refurbished laptops on their site - Dell and other brands. They advertise them as "as good as new". The description for each model was comprehensive. When comparing the specifications - processor, memory, hard drive, etc. - their Dell refurbished laptops were cheaper than any I could find elsewhere - cheaper than anywhere on Ebay and well over £100 cheaper than buying brand new.
Based on my previous experiences with the Tesco refurbs, I was nervous but nevertheless ordered one from them (it was a Q15R N5110 with an i5 processor, 4GB memory, 500GB hard drive, Windows 7 [64 bit]).
The laptop was delivered on the day I requested. It was spotless - you wouldn't know it wasn't brand new. We have had it for several days now, and it does everything we wanted it to - exceeds our expectations on performance and looks great.
It was sold with PCWorld's free 12 month warranty. I have no personal experience with PCWorld's guarantees, but it gives me more confidence buying from them with that warranty than buying from a seller without such a large presence and reputation to preserve. I discovered (through Dell's website) that this laptop has also got several months of Dell's original manufacturer's warranty remaining - I've contacted Dell to register my wife as the new owner so that we can get the benefit of that as well just in case.
Before buying this laptop I read reviews about PCWorld and its online shop - some reviews were very negative. Most people who had left reviews seemed to have made the effort just because they had something to be unhappy about - justified or otherwise.
I have to give credit where it is due, I am 100% satisfied with the online purchaing experience / procedure, with the delivery and with the laptop itself, and I am really pleased with the excellent price.
Thank you PCWorld - I will definitely use you again.
