The Original Laptop
Review of Psion Series 3a by donf18

Advantages: It's very portable
Disadvantages: hard to find now, but worth the effort

Sadly My Psion is on it's last legs, the hinges where the screen flips up are broken............it still works great just needs a new body, a bit like myself. My wife bought me my Psion Series 3 years ago, and I have used it continuously since then. The basic unit is 16.5cm * 2.2cm *8.5cm, which is a bit bigger than the PDA's going around just now. At it's heart is an NEC V30 7.7Mhz processor. I know what your thinking 7.7Mhz very slow. Well by ...
...many lengthy documents comfortably. The Psion has 1Mb of memory which can cope with a large quantity of info such as Word processor files, database files, and spreadsheet files. It also has a Spreadsheet, which has all the basic functions and a few more. It has a database, which can hold several hundred records. I've used my database to keep track of all the videos/DVD's we have hired. We rate them out of ten just in case we wish to watch one again. ... Read review

Ericsson MC218
Review of Ericsson Mobile Companion MC 218 by clinch100

Advantages: Compatibility with PC (Outlook, Word, Excel)
Disadvantages: Compatibility with mobile phone

...to be compatible with my Ericsson A2628s mobile phone. I had purchased the DI 28 modem (it came with a DI27 modem initially) although it then became apparent that the "My Phone" application was not compatible with the phone. After contacting Ericsson Support I found out that the MC218 is only designed to be fully compatible with their "earlier" mobile phones although the email function would work with later phones including the A2628s. I couldn't ...
...DI 28 and fortunately managed to get a refund on it. My advice is that if you need a machine to transfer documents between a pda and a pc and you need to input a fair amount of data then the MC218 is perfect. If you need a communication tool (ie email and internet browsing) then you should carefully look into the compatibility with your mobile phone. ON the whole I find it a great machine and I have not had any problems with it. It uses 2 x AA ... Read review

Palmtop from another decade....
Review of Psion Series 3c by matryx

Advantages: Lightweight, fast application speed, Backlight
Disadvantages: Hinge joint prone to breaking, expensive to repair

Originally released in 1996, the Psion 3c was for all intents and purposes a souped up Psion 3a. The body was the same, with the exception of motif on the front, although the internals had been jiggled around somewhat. Good old green and black backlit (toggleable on and off) LCD screen (well, LCD screen with a greenish tint behind it). In regular light, this backlight is counter-productive, and indeed in most light I preferred to just try and cope ...
...even more strangely, use your psion to illuminate the surrounding area with an eerie green glow(ever had a bulb blow on you at 2am with only your psion to hand for supplimental light? I know I have!). Using the backlight places considerable demands on the batteries leading to a faster run-down. Psion claim it halves the battery life, but in my experience it's worse than that. My version came with a 2MB internal drive (although 1MB versions are available ... Read review

Psion Siena
Review of Psion Siena by adam.owen

Advantages: Keeps all your address's and apointments together in one place
Disadvantages: Lack of memory and tiny screen size

I had my Psion Siena about 3 years ago, it is the model with only 512 kbytes RAM. At the time I had it mainly for a gadget reason, I like gadgety things like that. It can be an expensive pursuit. Anyway, as an address book the thing is pretty good. It has a diary function witch has a useful anniversary facility. I.e. if you enter a birthday as an anniversary you never have to enter it again as the Psion automatically puts in every year for you. ...
...to purchase a cable and software. If you can find somewhere that still sells the Psion Siena I wouldn’t recommend buying one now as they are so dated. If you get hold of a cheap second hand one though they are good as address books and that’s it really. ... Read review

An honest XDA Orbit review!!
Review of O2 Xda Orbit by ankitm

Advantages: Loads of Features in a not so thick mobile
Disadvantages: No 3G and could have been faster

...had come with a Windows Mobile 5 built in but the O2 support website offered an upgrade to Windows Mobile 6 which was easily accessible and download able from the company's website itself. Also synchronization with PC was easy. Just to conclude am very happy and satisfied with the phone. ... Read review
