Review of HP Jornada 820 by

Advantages: Very flexible, fairly powerful, labour saving
Disadvantages: Internet access a bit tricky, Access doesn't work
...things. The only way that HP could address this, however, is by making the machine bigger or allowing for a plug in keyboard, and neither of those are particularly attractive options as they’ll cut down the mobility which is the keynote of the Jornada. I’ll continue to put up with the odd typo in order to keep the dimensions and weight, thank you very much. When typing, I’ve also found that unless I’ve got the Jornada on a ... ...from Windows Explorer, Recycle Bin, HP Dialup, Windows Media Player, Inbox, Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Pocket Word, Pocket Excel, Pocket Access, Pocket Powerpoint, HP viewer and OmniSolve (a scientific calculator) all installed on the desktop with some other programs hidden away under the 'Start’ tab. I’ve not needed anything else to date apart from the ActiveSync function. This allows you to connect your Jornada to up to two different ...

Superb bit of kit
Review of HP Jornada 680 by
dave27
Advantages: Portable, synchronisation, screen, has a keyboard, good internet connectivity
Disadvantages: Keyboard a bit small
...FIND THE CATEGORY
The HP Jornada is one smart bit of kit - a PDA or palm top, I guess, you'd call it. I got one about a month ago at work and it was a straight choice for me between this and a Palm, but in the end the internet connectivity and the keyboard were what drove me to choose the Jornada and I've not been disappointed. The keyboard is a bit fiddly and my big fingers sometimes get the top two rows of keys mixed up. Also the set does have ... ...top half with the monitor open too far. Those gripes aside, however, I've been very impressed.
The major use I've found for the Jornada is keeping my home PC and my work machine synchronised. Once you've got the synchronisation software and processing set up it's an absolute dream - the first time I set it up at home though I forgot to reboot my desktop PC after connecting the Jornada and I was pulling my hair out because I couldn't get the link ...

Useful - but you'll need your PC
Review of Psion netBook by
cheroy1
Advantages: Lightweight, portable
Disadvantages: Lack of multimedia facilities
...difficult choice to purchase the Psion Netbook / Series 7. Afterall, the expense is not that far removed from a laptop. However, I feel that this device is worthy of the investment. Firstly, a brief rundown of the programmes included with the device:
Word - Basic word processor, with capability however to insert tables and figures as per standard PC applications.
Sheet - a basic spreadsheet application. Example files are included to show how this ... ...Uses the microphone on the Psion to record small sound files.
Program - Uses the OPL language to allow you to create your own programmes.
Comms - Files transfer utility.
The instruction manual that comes with the device is pretty good. It takes you through installing the various backup batteries and such. On the subject of battery life - this is excellent as compared to a laptop (near 8 hours).
When you first open up the device, it lights up ...

The developers PDA
Review of Psion Series 7 by
Inyoka
Advantages: Java, Great Battery Life, MS Word, Excel & Outlook Compatible
Disadvantages: Initial memory is limiting, modem not included.
I have owned a Psion 7 for a little over two years and have yet to see a PDA which comes close. It cost me £150 english pounds second hand and is still impressive. All I got with it was the PC Link cable and a power supply. The keyboard is superb, and this little puter is the perfect hybrid of PC and PDA.
I have used it for various tasks from writting dissertations, creating stock control spreadsheets to developing HTML, JavaScript and writting ... ...new software packages for the Psion both free and pay for. Developing code will eat memory, I would recommend at east 32mb, 16 will require you deleting old files when you have finished them. Most programmers like to be able to cut & paste old code and develop there own reusable objects, this requires more and more space to store them.
Java has little restrictions on a Psion as long as you remember the limited spec of the machine. Javascript however ...

Jornada720 - there's better out there.
Review of HP Jornada 720 by
Mainflava
Advantages: Clear display, well built
Disadvantages: Unresponsive keys
I've owned this handheld PC for the last 5-6 years after searching for something mobile that could be used "on the go". My initial impressions of this device on opening the box were good; the build quality seemed solid, the display was clear, the sound was of surprisingly good quality for its size and, the unit came pre-loaded with Microsoft Office Lite applications. My intentions for this device were as a substitute for my laptop when luggage space ... ...found that using the Jornada for anything other than typing very short documents became somewhat frustrating. The main gripe was that the spacebar was very temperamental, often leaving sentences "withoutspaces". This meant that after every couple of lines, I had to go back and insert spaces. Furthermore, the ActiveSync software used to connect the Jornada to a PC was unstable and unreliable and this, coupled with the fact that very little software ...
