HP iPAQ 114 - A fine 'basic' PDA Advantages: Value for money, fast processor, stylus Disadvantages: Weight (too light!), lots of pressure needed to use touch screen HP iPaq 114 Classic Background HP's iPAQ 114 Classic is amongst one of the newest models released by HP in its completely overhauled range. This new series of PDAs consists of; the 100 & 200 series which are basic PDAs running on Windows Mobile 6.0, the 300 series (which has built in GPS) and the 600 & 900 series which have built in cellular phones and GPS system. Great IPAQ!!! :-) Advantages: Easy to use, Looks nice, Expansion packs available, Can be used for GPS or MP3 player. Disadvantages: Battery life can be quite low if the screen backlight is on, Expansion packs are expensive. I am very pleased with my Ipaq. My IPAQ was running Windows Pocket PC (ce 3.0), which is fully of handy features, however recently I decided I wanted to try installing Linux on it and see how it goes. So with help from my mate I installed GPE Linux, and it is currently working fine. Linux comes with more features than Windows Pocket PC, and I would recommend installing Linux on your Ipaq only if you have experience with Linux. Overall I love the ... ...clear screen. Although the battery life can be a bit short, I usually don’t have any problems providing I remember to charge it up every other night! I got my Ipaq from ebay fairly cheap, so I would recommend having a look on there for one if you interested. BUT if you want expansion packs for your ipaq, you’re usually better off buying an Ipaq with the expansion pack included in the sale rather than buying the Ipaq and Expansion pack separately, ... My HP IPAQ Pocket PC Hx2790 Review Advantages: Battery life, Easy synchronisation, WIFI and application compatability Disadvantages: Not too good speaker quality I bought this device last year and have had almost no trouble with it since i got it. The device has a nice little docking station which worked great after installing microsoft activesync. As soon as you sit it on the docking station, all of your files, emails and just about anything you want will synchronise with the device to keep you up to date. It also charges from the mains and USB at the same time when its on the docking station so thats helpfull. ... ...front which ensures that nobody but me can access the device as everything is encrypted unti l i slide my finger down the front. There are lots of applications that can be bought or downloaded and installed via activesync to make additions to the device. Ive got to say, one of the biggest advantages of this device is the battery life, even though i have the device set to power off after five minutes of inactivity, it can last for six hours no problem ... HP and Tomtom Advantages: Nice and compact Disadvantages: tend to have to softboot more frequnetly that I would like ...both your desktop to your HP computer and offer flexibility in how you work. The screen although a good size means that you may start squinting if looking at it for any length of time. If I needed to buy another palm computer I would buy this one again but perhaps one that would work on a wifi network. Portable computing - iPAKing with a punch Advantages: Powerful, fast, sleek Disadvantages: Getting programs into the system ...I have bought from the HP site. Another problem with it is that its really hungry on power. I find it runs down its charge quite quickly. Its important that you get a case for it to stop it scratching, and get extra pens for it, as they tend to go missing, or maybe its just me. I have it connected through my wifi and its superb little browser, both at home outside when I want to check email. Make sure if you use the client that you use an imap ... ...its good but it was HP for me due to the backup of HP and most importantly the WiFi capability and MS suite of software that came with it. You get Ms Word and Ms Excel, so you can read your docs on the run and also produce material which you can use on your desktop or note book later on. This is real power computing on the small manageable mobile platform. I bought it in my local PC World, in Sprucefield.
