IPAQ 214 - Good product let down by poor reliability
Advantages: Ease of use Disadvantages: Reliability and customer service
...the base of the IPAQ. HP "service" say I have made a mistake and want to charge me over £100 to repair the unit. They are not listening to customers who know there is a genuine issue with the equipment. A pity because in all other respects, the IPAQ fully satisfied my requirements, was easy to set up and use and promised to be a useful piece of equipment. I can still use it but only with the USB charging facility which is very slow and requires computer ...

Well worth a second look
Advantages: Great value for money Disadvantages: Not as higher spec as others
...Ebay I came across the Acer N35 advertised as a PDA / Satnav combined. The concept of a combined unit appealed somewhat as I could also use the device as a pocket diary. PRICE
*********
The recommended price for these is around the £200 mark. However, Ebay usually being good for a bargain, I bought a factory reconditioned unit for under £80.
WHAT YOU GET
*******************
Basically a PDA (pocket PC) and a satellite navigation system all rolled ... ...around, for under £100 the Acer N35 gives you firstly a decent enough PDA, but more importantly a truly portable first class Satnav system for half the normal price.

Small Yet Perfectly Formed
Advantages: Small, Light, Bright and Powerfull Disadvantages: Not Enough Accessories
Compaq's iPAQ H3970 is by far one of the most commonly used PDAs on the market, and for a reason too.
The H3970 has all the gadgets. Bluetooth, an SD expansion slot, Infrared, a 64mb internal memory. It may not seem much, but the SD expansion slot can hold up to 4GB on a card! Bluetooth's range is around 5-10 meters, and can be used to sync your PDA with a computer, transfer data, or do any number of other things. The PDA features a normal headphone ... ...or audio cable.
One thing I did notice, is that the pre-loaded operating system, Windows Mobile 2002, isn't the best in the World. It is slow, and can have loads of errors at times. When upgraded to Windows Mobile 2003, the H3970 peforms extremely well, playing videos with no stutter, lag and yet it improves battery power as well.
The amount of accessories for the H3970 isn't terrific, I'll give you that. However, you can still buy a Compact Flash ...

Mio P550 GPS PDA
Advantages: Accurate, Good Value for money, uses SD cards Disadvantages: Poor battery life
When purchasing the Mio P550 I was after a navgation system that could easily be put in my car then arriving at my destination easily fitting in my pocket for security. The Mio P550 is a nice shape and size meaning it does fit nicely in your pocket unlike most brick shaped GPS systems you tend to find.
What is even better is its also a PDA, so not just will it tell you where to go, it will be your personal organiser, your mp3 player, your mobile ... ...I sent an email to mio about it asking if there was any other ways of restarting it. After about a week I managed to get it to start up and it was running slowly because too many programs were running, after closing some it came back under control. About 2 weeks later I got a reply to my email to Mio which was useless and looked like it had been translated.
Overall its a good value for money peice of kit.....and bubble breaker is an addictive game ...

Palm T/X: business in a pocket
Advantages: It has loads of applications for every day business Disadvantages: Software quite User-unfriendly
I received the PALM T/X as a present and at the time the only data bank / portable personal data tool I had was an old Casio personal agenda.
The PALM T/X is a very good device to store personal data, like Calendar, Phone book, etc. Also, I soon bought a 2Gb memory card, which allowed to greatly upgrade the device standard memory. One issue I found is the memory slot: in fact, there is no protection for the meory card, which may be accidentally ... ...example when transporting the Palm in the pocket.
Other not-good characteristic is the software interface, which is quite User-unfriendly and old-looking and when accessing some applications it does not allow to close them. Time to time I observed crashes, however, it is easy to recover from them.
Other than that, this is a very useful and good device, which, despite its drawbacks, I recommend. ...
