Axim X51
Advantages: Does everything you want in a PDA Disadvantages: Problems turning on sometimes
I have been the proud owner of my Axim x51 for just over a year now. I use it to keep my work diary, surf the net and i use it for sat nav using tomtom software. It is very easy to use and has 2 card slots one for SD cards and one for compact flash. I use both at the same time. The speed of the system is good and as long as you use memory cards you can store whatever you want. It comes with a charging cradel which you can link with your pc and use ...

Palm Tungsten T (2nd hand BUYERS BEWARE)
Advantages: Brilliant when new Disadvantages: After two years use it begins to deteriorate
...new "T" to replace my Palm Vx which had done me a good turn but was beginning to play up.
I loved the "T" right from the start, it was fast in its work, small for my handbag or pocket and did all the usual things like Date Book, Contacts, etc and one press on the Hot sync button on the cradle and all my Word and Excel documents and notes prepared on the go were transferred seamlessly to my home PC using the Documents to Go programme which came in ... ...on the bright colour screen. Voice recorder is good too, but I soon changed the button on the side to "Date Book" for I often found the unit recording by itself having obviously touched the button by mistake on picking up the unit.
Then after two years things began to go wrong, first thing I noticed was that the screen had "slipped", a tap with the stylus produced the wrong result! This meant redigitizing the screen, firstly now and again then more ...

a little old but still a handy tool
Advantages: decent during its day Disadvantages: lacks bluetooth, gprs...
...pcmcia wireless card and my casio had the CF wireless card. because his ipaq didnt have a CF card slot, his pda became almost 3 times the size of mine! the casio e-200 still runs on the older pocket pc 2002 OS, lacks bluetooth, gprs, has limited bundled sftware and much of the fancy stuff most high end ppc's will get you nowadays, but if you can still find this baby at stores, get a hold of it. It's been 2 years now and i'm still holding onto mine! ...

An Organiser By Any Other Name
Advantages: Looks a lot dearer than it is. Links to PC for proper typing Disadvantages: Currency converter limited to €.
...with various budget brands, Sharp, Oregon etc, all promising the PC link as an optional extra, but which, on trying to get hold of one from the original dealer, always failed to materialise.
To a certain extent, this didn’t matter too much since I only ever wanted an organiser to act as an address book for me, and possibly a currency translator. Losing my data and having to start all over again at a later date was a bit of a chore though.
Then ... ...to from a PC. The Oregon Scientific PDA188 is exactly what I’ve been looking for. At £20, it is DEFINITELY what I’ve been looking for! You can also buy it packaged by Boots at the moment for the same price.
So what do you get for your £20? - 256K of memory* touch-screen organiser, with Telephone Number\Address Book, Scheduler, Memo Pad, International Time\Alarm Clock, Calendar, Calculator and Currency Converter.
*Curiously, the Boots version claims ...

Quite handy
Advantages: Really useful, easy to use Disadvantages: Some aspects have stopped working, won't work with my new N rated internet
I picked one of these up abroad in Canada 3 years ago at a pretty good price, I found it very handy and very easy to use. I originaly used it to conect to my internet at home, but after upgrading the internet it wasn't compatable so i'm making do without. It is an excellent tool, with XP i would sync it using the software it came with, and vistas new Windows Mobile Device Center also does an excellent job.
The onboard memory is not huge, but then ... ...top and it's fine, so it's never been an issue for me. My first stylus wore down but it was simple to pick up another one. The battery is not too bad during use, but it does tend to drop down if you leave it turned off for a week or too, so keep an eye on it. The onboard sound isn't fantastic but I don't use it for that so it's fine.
The buttons on the front however are a bit iffy, some of mine have stopped working. Also my Word Mobile software ...
