IPAQ 214 - Good product let down by poor reliability Advantages: Ease of use Disadvantages: Reliability and customer service ...the base of the IPAQ. HP "service" say I have made a mistake and want to charge me over £100 to repair the unit. They are not listening to customers who know there is a genuine issue with the equipment. A pity because in all other respects, the IPAQ fully satisfied my requirements, was easy to set up and use and promised to be a useful piece of equipment. HP iPAQ 114 - A fine 'basic' PDA Advantages: Value for money, fast processor, stylus Disadvantages: Weight (too light!), lots of pressure needed to use touch screen HP iPaq 114 Classic Background HP's iPAQ 114 Classic is amongst one of the newest models released by HP in its completely overhauled range. This new series of PDAs consists of; the 100 & 200 series which are basic PDAs running on Windows Mobile 6.0, the 300 series (which has built in GPS) and the 600 & 900 series which have built in cellular phones and GPS system. Loox no further for a PDA Advantages: Small, lightweight, easy use Disadvantages: Slow GPS, No navigation software I had been looking for a small, powerful PDA for a while and managed to narrow my searches down to a short list of just two. I had a few specific requirements in mind such as a good, clear screen, GPS, a fast processor and sufficient memory. So in the end it was a toss up between the Acer N311 and the Pocket Loox N560… The two aforementioned PDAs were very similar in specification, but the N560 just shaded it on memory and power, which was what ... ...it has not disappointed. The screen is a bright and clear 3.5" touch sensitive screen (as you would expect with a PDA), and is very responsive and accurate when you are using the stylus. I would recommend getting some screen protectors as it can get dirty and greasy very easily (I would point at this point though, getting hold of these kinds of accessories has proven a little difficult as most major and well known suppliers don't seem to stock products ... Palm Tungsten T (2nd hand BUYERS BEWARE) Advantages: Brilliant when new Disadvantages: After two years use it begins to deteriorate ...new "T" to replace my Palm Vx which had done me a good turn but was beginning to play up. I loved the "T" right from the start, it was fast in its work, small for my handbag or pocket and did all the usual things like Date Book, Contacts, etc and one press on the Hot sync button on the cradle and all my Word and Excel documents and notes prepared on the go were transferred seamlessly to my home PC using the Documents to Go programme which came in ... ...on the bright colour screen. Voice recorder is good too, but I soon changed the button on the side to "Date Book" for I often found the unit recording by itself having obviously touched the button by mistake on picking up the unit. Then after two years things began to go wrong, first thing I noticed was that the screen had "slipped", a tap with the stylus produced the wrong result! Axim X51 Advantages: Does everything you want in a PDA Disadvantages: Problems turning on sometimes I have been the proud owner of my Axim x51 for just over a year now. I use it to keep my work diary, surf the net and i use it for sat nav using tomtom software. It is very easy to use and has 2 card slots one for SD cards and one for compact flash. I use both at the same time. The speed of the system is good and as long as you use memory cards you can store whatever you want.
