Need email on the go? This is for you
Review of RIM Blackberry 7290 by secureinsomniac

Advantages: email on the go, calender, address book, good battery, easy to use, good visible display
Disadvantages: cost

I love getting my hands on new gadgets and when I had the opportunity to take possesion of a Blackberry 7290 for only £99.99 on an 18 month contract with Vodafone I jumped at the chance. Included within the box was the Blackberry itself, the software disk, a plug socket charger and a USB cable for transferring data to the desktop PC. The cable also doubles up as a charger for the battery which needs charging for about 12 hours before using it the ...
...the instructions as I found installing the software a bit of a nightmare at first and ended up on the phone to technical support twice. Each time they were very helpful and eventually a small icon appeared that shows the progress of data transfers and updates. So what is on the Blackberry that makes it special? Well, it's just like carrying your PC around with you. It can both send and receive emails using GPRS technology, can be used to make phone ... Read review

Comms on the move
Review of RIM Blackberry 7230 by Danneey

Advantages: Push email, pda features
Disadvantages: a little bulky

Issued a blackberry as a replacement for my work mobile phone, and first impressions were that I didn't like it. I think this is just that I saw it as a very bulky mobile phone. Admittedly, this was a very short sighted view of the Blackberry, my opinion has changed now to appreciate how useful it is. The blackberry devices are still one of the few devices which has true push email. That is to say, when an email is received by the server at HQ, ...
...connect or login to the email server to download the email. The same applies to sending emails, you write your email, click send and away it goes. It still surprises people every now and then that I can respond so quickly to an email. There is a QWERTY keyboard for writing messages, and notes, although not large enough to use as a computer keyboard, familiarity with where letters are on the keyboard speed up the process. As a phone, I still have ... Read review

It's the new daddy, but daddy ain't perfect
Review of Samsung i8510 innov8 by badongism

Advantages: Well made, amazing camera, does everything the N96 can do and more
Disadvantages: Appalling battery life, poor video recording sound quality, some software glitches

...I am alerted to the Samsung i8510, which has an 8 megapixel camera. Yep, you read that right. It has a camera that not only leads the camera phone range, but will also trump most digital cameras. I will admit that camera quality is the first thing I look for in a phone since I am a keen photographer and I like to get high quality shots whenever I like, and that's not entirely practical unless I lug my big posh camera with me. So anyway, I decided ...
...daylight) is as good as Samsung claim. Elsewhere, there's a few glitches. DURABILITY Well as I said, the phone feels well made. It's easy to use, there are loads of updates, and it'll be many years before you find a phone with as good a camera as this one. However, under the heading of durability comes my big complaint. The battery. The battery life is just ridiculous. Charge it overnight, take it out at 7am and by 5pm, whether you've used it ... Read review

Blackberry Pearl? More of a diamond...
Review of Blackberry Pearl 8110 by mallamaloo

Advantages: Does most things it should simply and well whilst still being phone sized
Disadvantages: Viewing some attachments is virtually impossible

...I also get a blackberry instant message from a mate asking if I want to go for lunch. Nice! On the train to work I look at the emails to see what I'm going to face when I get to the office. Not much to worry about so I fire up the brickbreaker, the 'pearl' in the middle has taken some getting used to with brickbreaker but I'm starting to get some decent scores. More seriously though the 'pearl' at first is a little awkward but before long you're ...
...can get it on the blackberry as it's a word doc (pdfs I don't even bother trying because it's a nightmare with the blackberry). On the way home I catch up on a few emails, the predictive texting is ok and takes some getting used to but I'm a speed demon on it now so I can ping off a couple of emails within five mins. Sort that out and then text the wife to let her know my train time. I wouldn't say this is a smart phone, personal digital assistant ... Read review
