Loaded with features but slow
Review of Mio A702 by
Pavel_s
Advantages: All in one device with good choice of functions
Disadvantages: Slow performance in most funcfions
Lots of functions, but average performance due to slow processor. Disappointing camera performance, very long shutter lag and slow shutter time even in good lighting conditions. Pictures are usable but as expected nowhere close to 3 megapixel camera. Keypad is odd for regular phone user. Screen can be difficult to read outdoors during bright sunlight. USB connection is fast but requires Hot Sync 4.5. My model didn't come with the navigation software ...

It's the new daddy, but daddy ain't perfect
Review of Samsung i8510 innov8 by
badongism
Advantages: Well made, amazing camera, does everything the N96 can do and more
Disadvantages: Appalling battery life, poor video recording sound quality, some software glitches
...I am alerted to the Samsung i8510, which has an 8 megapixel camera. Yep, you read that right. It has a camera that not only leads the camera phone range, but will also trump most digital cameras. I will admit that camera quality is the first thing I look for in a phone since I am a keen photographer and I like to get high quality shots whenever I like, and that's not entirely practical unless I lug my big posh camera with me. So anyway, I decided ... ...daylight) is as good as Samsung claim. Elsewhere, there's a few glitches.
DURABILITY
Well as I said, the phone feels well made. It's easy to use, there are loads of updates, and it'll be many years before you find a phone with as good a camera as this one. However, under the heading of durability comes my big complaint. The battery.
The battery life is just ridiculous. Charge it overnight, take it out at 7am and by 5pm, whether you've used it ...

Blackberry Pearl? More of a diamond...
Review of Blackberry Pearl 8110 by
mallamaloo
Advantages: Does most things it should simply and well whilst still being phone sized
Disadvantages: Viewing some attachments is virtually impossible
...I also get a blackberry instant message from a mate asking if I want to go for lunch. Nice!
On the train to work I look at the emails to see what I'm going to face when I get to the office. Not much to worry about so I fire up the brickbreaker, the 'pearl' in the middle has taken some getting used to with brickbreaker but I'm starting to get some decent scores. More seriously though the 'pearl' at first is a little awkward but before long you're ... ...can get it on the blackberry as it's a word doc (pdfs I don't even bother trying because it's a nightmare with the blackberry).
On the way home I catch up on a few emails, the predictive texting is ok and takes some getting used to but I'm a speed demon on it now so I can ping off a couple of emails within five mins. Sort that out and then text the wife to let her know my train time.
I wouldn't say this is a smart phone, personal digital assistant ...

Nokia n96
Review of Nokia N96 by
Gippon
Advantages: Massive internal memory with option to expand, large 2.8" display, wi-fi support, 5 MP camera
Disadvantages: Same battery as n95, annoying camera button, no light sensor or integrated graphics chip
...sleeker than both the original Nokia n95 and the n95 8GB. This is in part due to the removal of the camera slider which was present on the n95 and it is also using the same battery as the original n95 (950MhA). This could be seen as a disadvantage considering the awful battery life of the original n95, this problem was somewhat addressed by Nokia with the release of the n95 8GB which included a higher capacity battery (1200MhA). However Nokia have ... ...in landscape mode. This time Nokia have realised this by the inclusion of a "kick stand" on the back of the phone positioned under the camera. This acts as a stand so the phone can be angled at viewing pleasure when it is placed upon a surface. The camera itself is the same from the n95 and n95 8GB and like the n95 8GB this does not contain a slider for extra protection. Nokia have now included dual LEDs for flash photography but I personally would ...
