Pen and Paper is Still better Than This
Review of Handspring Visor Deluxe by
Champ666
Advantages: Handy To Do List, Future Antique
Disadvantages: Not Much Cop At All
Years ago a boss of mine (who bored an uncanny resemblance to the pointy haired boss in the Dilbert comics, both in appearance and attitude) advised me to get one of these babies to help with my organisational skills, like most advice given by that idiot I completely ignored him. I preferred using notebook and pen and still do.
However seeing that they were going cheap on eBay I got mine for 18 quid I decided to have a go. If you decide to have ... ...in mind that this beastie is OLD technology and is very limited in what it can do.
Ok so what does it do then well basically it is an organizer and nothing more with the following features…..
Address book, Calculator, to do list, date book, expense form thing which is compatible with excel, memo pad and mail which is compatible with Outlook. In the few weeks I have had it the only thing I have used is the to do list which has proved to be pretty ...

Cheap and cheerful
Review of Ericsson MC12 CE Handheld by
chris547
Advantages: cheap
Disadvantages: not upgradeable, small memory, propriety serial connector
...ago now, at the time Ericsson produced two versions of this device, the MC12 and the MC16. The MC12 came with 4Mb ram while the MC16 came with 8Mb. At the time I was looking for a product that I could use for writing reports and also keeping track of my finances. Unfortunately I only managed to write reports on this device, when the bateries hadn't run down. This was a main problem with this device, it would go through batteries and the backup battery ... ...out of memory and phoned Ericsson to see if I could update this to a MC16. Unfortunately you can't upgrade the software or even the memory of this device. Adding an extra smartcard only increases the storage and does not actually alter the memory necessary to run programs.
The serial connector was also Ericssons own design so this mean't that you could only connect Ericssons own phones to this device.
If I had known what this device was like I ...

Ageing, but still invaluable
Review of Palm V by
TallTone
Advantages: Fits your work and social life into a small portable space; wide range of downloadable software
Disadvantages: Handwriting recognition not perfect
OK, so the Palm V isn't exactly the hottest new thing on the planet. I've had mine for about eighteen months, and it's still going strong.
It's all there - address book, date book, to do list, notepad, calculator. If that isn't enough, hook it up to a PC and you can also download a variety of programs (and there's some good shareware out there) to do anything from play chess (there are plenty of games) to provide recipe ideas. You can send e-mail ... ...of your inbox. And of course, you can keep all the basic application data in step with Outlook (or just about whatever you use).
It's not all been sweetness and light though - the handwriting recognition is not perfect although quite adequate; I've also had a couple of problems with broken buttons, but warranty replacement has been fairly swift considering (about a week).
However, the real reason that I thought it worth writing an opinion on an ...

Great Palm Device, even today!
Review of Palm Vx by
OwlOwl
Advantages: Very reliable, fast, THOUSANDS!!! of accessories, Upgradeable OS to 4.1, good amount of memory (8MB)
Disadvantages: It doesn't to exactly everything today's handhelds can do now...
I find the Palm Vx is just a great organiser. I mean, it's so slim, and not to mention there are literally MILLIONS of accessories available for it! At this time of year (2008) I'm sure most of us will go out and buy a new PDA. But, with the thousands of Palm softwares available and most work with OS 3.5-4.1 (with the upgrade) still. I think it's the best Palm device yet (and the Tungsten T3), they've put a lot of work into it at the time and was ... ...most users even today considering Palm applications are very small. Although this thing doesn't have an MP3 player, color screen or video player, it's perfectly good for anything other than that. 8Mb might seem like little today, but as mentioned before considering how small the apps are it's not an issue at all. It's design is very sleek and slim, and many cases are available for it. In fact this Palm has the most accessories available for it compared ...
