PDC World Championship Darts (PC)
The game is a simulation arrows game based around the world of darts. The Players darts championships is a real life never ending tournament based programme. On Sky sports back in December staged the World Championships at the Alexandra Palace, the Vegas Desert Classic in July, the World Darts Grand Prix in Dublin in October. These are some of the main events the PDC circuit players play for a ever growing prize fund.
graphics
I can really say that the graphics simply do not live up to the expectations of an arrows game. It really does compare to current and old style golf game's where the graphics overall fail to add value to the game. When having a game of arrows against the Computerised opponent, I have an image of a arrow thrower who I have selected as my player. The Screen is split between the player on the right hand side of the screen and on the left is the dartboard. On the left hand side there is a darting pointing arrow device to throw the three arrows, I am allowed to throw on the board. An attempt at imaging the players really is not up to real high quality standards. You know how each player looks like; well when you see them in this Game they do not look as large on a scale range, or as clearly on a detailed basis. A good effort was made in capturing some background of the venues, the lights of the venue.
game playability
Throwing arrows in real life is really simple to manage and easy to pick up upon. Whilst I started using the desktop game, on the amateur level as it is the lowest possible level of difficulty. Here I am simply throwing arrow's when it's my turn. My Computerised opponent is full flowing and a high scoring in effect virtual player. With standing this difficulty I really am up against it at all levels. The Computerised opponent regularly scores ton plus, and check's out the leg within six arrows.
Using the professional level game is a somewhat daunting task, needing several days if not weeks practise. Where the amateur level had a mouse pointing device, the professional level is almost impossible to accurately hit treble twenty, treble nineteen for a cover shot. Finishing on a double I can not tell you how hard it is, as the Computerised opponent average ranged from over eighty to one hundred and ten, compared to mine which was a poor thirty to fifty average.
ease of use
Selecting the user and opponent is straightforward process to do. The use of a dart pointing mechanism to select type of event, how many players I want to compete against, and the event is easy. I can select any character in the top thirty two of the PDC at the moment and select my opponent for effect. The game is really tough to grasp in getting the accuracy of throwing the arrows correctly on a consistent basis.
The game user can see the user on the right of the screen. The fore arm of the user moves up and down. The trick is finding the correct power and accuracy of hitting close to the treble twenty score Bed. This is difficult in my view as this stops the flow and rhythm of the game play and overall satisfaction. The arrow pointing icon can result in the variation of angle so the arrow drifts to the left, or the right. Any movement in the angle of the players arm and throwing action makes this game really awkward.
The game has like most other game's, a career mode, exhibition one off match mode, a choice of number of legs per match, and has a choice of venues and player's.
extra features or lack of
Their is no online multi player option. I simply cannot understand why there is not a format where I can play other people on the Internet. A dart board in real life would have cost me about twenty Pounds which is how much I paid for this game. The darts and accessories would overall cost me much more if I practise over a year, having done that many times. This to me raises the question of the value of the game and by comparison there is not any. I could go and find a local Pub that has a darts board and practise there for free.
The game is very good in terms of the Computerised scorer will know when a user has hit a treble twenty for example, and if this is hit a second time, it will know that a one hundred and eighty score is possible. So this aspect of the game is really knowledgeable in terms of a player's skill level, and also the score being thrown. . Also the use of the voice's of the darts scorers is another good feature or area of good work shown.
availability and price
conclusion: Whilst I feel that the standard in the real life game has improved leaps and bounds over time. This game is really stuck in the old days of gaming. I feel perhaps with some future improvements in the 2009 version of this game are definetely needed before any chance of a repeat purchase. The somewhat two dimensional Graphic display's and overall high level of difficulty to understand this desktop game is a real let down in terms of quality.
I found it a really tough challenging game. The ability to score big checkout's and ton forty scores is really difficult in this game. It does give an insight into the high amount of practise a regular dartboard player need to make. I for one do not have enough time or patience using this particular desktop game, as it really is unforgiving. The gameplay and lack of control when throwing the arrow's is this biggest let down of this game. I will not buy another game until improvement is made. I will throw away this most not great and a mind numbingly boring game.
