PMC - TV Tuner with FM Radio

Pace, who have recently liquidated, produced a fine specimen in their TV Tuner. The card itself is PCI, of the small size one would expect an add-on to be these days. This card was installed in a system with a DVD decoder, and many other features, so I suspected this would be a difficult installation. Not so - the Pace card worked pretty much first time. Provided a good aerial, the Pace produces TV reception surpassing that of any standard television, the only problem being that a computer monitor makes the television picture look blocky due to its high resolution! From TV-viewing distance, rather than monitor-viewing distance, though, this is not a problem.

Both TV and radio tuners allow capturing to disk, which can then be viewed in separate packages, radio being captured to WAV and TV to AVI. The two cannot be simultaneously operated, though. By no means a replacement for a separate TV and radio, though, the Pace does its job of providing TV and radio facilities to a PC very well. When used in conjunction with the Animax remote control, this makes a nice multimedia system. At the cost of 80 pounds last year, this was a very good buy, although it will probably be surpassed by newer, cheaper models, but, being a hardware tuner, it placed no demand on the system, unlike cheaper software tuners.
