A wonderfully warm and heartfelt debut from a stunning new talent. Everyone needs a guardian angel! Some people wait their whole lives to find their soul mates. But not Holly and...
more...Gerry. Childhood sweethearts, they could finish each other's sentences and even when they fought, they laughed. No one could imagine Holly and Gerry without each other. Until the unthinkable happens. Gerry's death devastates Holly. But as her 30th birthday looms, Gerry comes back to her. He's left her a bundle of notes, one for each of the months after his death, gently guiding Holly into her new life without him, each note signed 'PS, I Love You'. As the notes are gradually opened, and as the year unfolds, Holly is both cheered up and challenged. The man who knows her better than anyone sets out to teach her that life goes on. With some help from her friends, and her noisy and loving family, Holly finds herself laughing, crying, singing, dancing -- and being braver than ever before. Life is for living, she realises -- but it always helps if there's an angel watching over you.

Full review
I was led to seek out this book after reading a review here a couple of weeks ago. I thought the book sounded interesting and decided to read it myself.
Searching out the book via my beloved book swapping site, it arrived last week and I wasted no time in settling down to read it.

The book is set in Dublin, based around the main character Holly. She is just about to turn thirty and is happily married to Gerry. Unfortunately straight away in the book we learn that Gerry has died of a brain tumour. This sets the trend for the book.
It's definitely marketed towards the female generation, tugging at those heart strings and I will warn you that if you are in any way inclined to cry during a sad film or book, your eyes will not stay dry throughout this book.

Gerry and Holly has what would be portrayed as the almost perfect life before tragedy struck their lives. Holly comes across as a flighty character, loves shopping, can't keep the same job for more than a few months at best, and generally loving her life. Of course this was before. Now you will read about how Gerry's death has affected Holly and how will she ever be able to get on with her own life?

Surrounded by two very good friends, Denise and Sharon, Holly finds the day to day grind almost impossible without the help of her friends and also her very dysfunctional family which pop up quite often throughout.
Why is it everyone else life appears to be going swimmingly and no-one can quite understand why Holly just can't get it together?

Gerry however did a clever thing before he died. Knowing his wife and how she would be coping, he wrote her a series of notes, one for each month for ten months to guide Holly through the first year of life without him.
It was these notes that were to challenge parts of Holly she wasn't sure existed, and also would provide comfort in those darkest hours of need. It was also these notes that made me sob as I read them. The author has very cleverly written this to really drag you into Holly's life and you wont want to come back to your own until you know how she will cope at the end of that year.

One extra character that seems to have a very big role in the plot, and also in Holly's life is a the token possible love interest in the name of Daniel. He just so happens to run a bar where Holly finds herself in during quite a lot of the book.
The part of Daniel I thought was played well to begin with but there were moment throughout where I really wasn't believing how the plot was going with the two of them. There is also a fairly good twist to the whole friendship right at the end of the book.

Certain parts of this book were written so well and originally, unlike anything I have ever read before, and the fact it gripped me from start to finish was a fantastic bonus. There were however certain parts that were slightly unbelievable such as Holly landing a nice new job almost with the click of her fingers with no experience whatsoever. I know the poor girl needed a break but all the same.

This book is very easy reading, possibly not one to take on holiday though unless you want everyone to see you blubbing as you read.

I would highly recommend anyone into easy chick lit reading to pick this book up if you see it.

Price - £6.99 but of course by now we all know we can pick it up a lot cheaper than that.
