I was quite suprised at how small the box was when it arrived. The box is very much the same dimensions as the camera unit itself but with more depth, very similar in size to an iphone box. Getting into the box is relatively simple by peeling the clear sticker and pulling back the flaps of card. The camera then comes in a seperate presentation box if you can call it that, in which you can lift the lid on a 'hinge' and be presented by the camera. When you lift the camera out, you can then lift the card structure holding the camera and be presented with a user guide, warranty leaflet, wrist lanyard and camera case.
The front of the camera is glossy black whilst the side and back are brushed metal. The screen located at the top is roughly 5cm x 2.5cm, which takes up roughly one third of the front to put it into perspective. There are 7 buttons on the front of the camera. The main button, the large red circle, is unsuprisingly the record button. There are 4 more buttons around this, each one being
an arrow. To the left of the 'up' arrow, is a triangle representing the play button, and to the right of the 'up' arrow is a rubbish bin; the delete button. Both of these are slightly dimpled into the surface. All the buttons are touch sensitive, and very easy to control. Although the black gloss surface looks stylish, it picks up fingerprints easily, but these can be easily wiped off.
On the upper left hand side of the camera is a small switch which is used to flick the usb upwards so you can connect to the computer. This is simple to use and the usb is released quickly before simply being clicked back into place when not needed. On the right hand side of the camera is a small oval button which is the power button. Simply holding for a second will trigger the control. On the bottom of the camera is a standard fit tripod fitting and a mini hdmi connection that can be used to connect to the tv (cable sold seperately).
First time power of the camera takes roughly 2 seconds until you see the screen that allows you to adjust the time and date of the camera. You are provided with roughly 80% battery which is indicated by the icon on the top of the screen. Filming is easy to do by pressing the record button, with the arrows easily controlling the zoom in and out of focus. This takes roughly 3 seconds from normal to zooming all the way out. The filming quality is maintained throughout which is good compared to other cameras I have used especially as there are no moving parts on the camera.
Filming quality is quite good, however, I wouldn't say it is HD quality. It is something which is ideal for the standard of filming you find of amateur footage on youtube. The specification also states that there is image stabilisation, and along with the 50 frames per second (fps) the quality of moving images is quite reasonable especially considering the way you hold the camera with one hand. The 4GB on board memory allows you to store roughly 1 hour of footage. However, it is unfortunate you can add a memory card to increase the memory.
Viewing videos back is easy by pressing the playback button and selecting the video you wish to choose. You can scroll through them with ease and without confusion. You can adjust the volume using the arrows, and an animated icon will be displayed to the right of the screen. The speaker is located on the back, but in a quiet room, the sound is very loud when on maximum. Deleting is easy through the pressing of a button which gives you a warning message before being fully defeated.
Connecting to the computer is easy once you release the usb. However, plugging it into a laptop doesn't feel very safe and the screen faces downwards which Im not to keen about as I can see it scratching easily without me realising. No software is needed to access the videos and you can quickly and simply transfer them from the camera to pc.
The camera is ideal for users who want quick and easy video recordings at a cheap decent price which is easy to use and gives relatively detailed footage.
