I bought my first PC from the great PC world in May 1999.I made two mistakes when I bought this computer, first the shop I bought it from is crap and two I went in with a thumping hangover.
The only reason I wanted a computer to start with was to mainly surf the net looking for franky vorn.I knew nothing about computers and went to this shop looking for honest advise.I wanted a computer that wouldnot be out of date in 1 years time and one which I could upgrade easy. The spotty onk told me the Packard Bell Club 40 was the latest and best selling computer and would suit my needs(lieing twit). He explained it had a large 3.2GB hard drive (If this is large I feel sorry for his girlfriend) and would be a great gaming machine with its Cyrix 300 MMX II processor.Yippey off I went to sort out the hard part....paying for it on there finance. This is where the twit ripped my eyes out and I was that p*ssed still, I never saw it coming .Do you want a five year warranty for only £2.20 per week extra, if anything goes wrong it will always get put right said the onk.Thing is I paid for it over 4 years my computer which should have cost me £550 now with the interest payments and protection plans is costing me well over £1100.
The computer it self has been very reliable, but I had to upgrade it straight away to play games other than Hopper and other Atari based games. It only had a 2D graphic card which was build into the motherboard and 32Mb memory.I bought a ATI graphic card and an extra 32MB from a computer fair for 100 quid which after advice from the bloke I bought if from fitted them myself with no probelms at all.At least I learnt something other than not to go to PC world!!!!!!
The computer aint anything special, but rarely crashes and work well at a steady speed.IM now after a bigger computer but will continue to pay for my mistake for 2 and a half years.Make sure you take someone that knows what they are doing before buying a computer.I thought I had a some idea what I was doing, but turned into the Mr Average PC world customer!!
Advantages: NONE Disadvantages: SLOW, BREAKS DOWN ALOT.,HARD TO UPGRADE
...wwith only a cyrix 300mhz which is very hard to upgrade with the motherboard supllied. I built a system of the same spec it cost me £250 where as people pay £600 packard bell are making alot of money ripping people off. Steer clear of this machine at all times. ...

Advantages: Can't think of any. Nice adverts, bright sweat shirts? Disadvantages: See above.
...read my comments on the Packard Bell Spirit system will know my opinions on that system. The fact that I actually bought it from PC World was an aside. However, as my second Spirit has joined the 'Choir Silicate', it would appear that PC World's just started to show its true colours. Far from the sterling and smiling efficiency they displayed in actually relieving me of £2500 for my system, they have managed to stretch my well tested limits even ... ...site repair service and are charging me an arm and a leg for repair cover on my machine, it would appear that they have a problem in delivering the goods on these things. Since Christmas day, I have been the proud owner of a plastic box; a nicely styled plastic box, trimmed in chrome and of a very handy size, but it's still a plastic box. It would appear that the incredible technological back up provided by PC Clinic is in a bit of a quandry when ...

Advantages: good instructions on use, quite easy for beginners to use Disadvantages: to slow, bogged down with manufacturers software
...months ago i purchased a Packard Bell Club machine from an alledged reputable dealer who informed me (at the time a total novice as far as PCs were concerned) that what i was getting was the bees knees of the computer world. With interest this machiine cost over £1000. It wasn't until about 12 months later when the system crashed that i found i had problems. After speaking to Techical Services on a very costly phone call they arranged for an engineer ... ...he informed me that Packard Bell install a tattoo in their machines and that if that goes you've got to get their engineer to come and re-install it. I was also informed that if i wanted to increase the graphics i would need to purchase a PCI 3D graphics card as there was no AGP slot. Another annoying thing is that Packard Bell install an awful lot of their own stuff such as softkey bar etc which can be annoying appearing on screen everytime you ...

Packard Bell and hewlett Packard are famous names in computing. Unfortunately, Packard Bell is only grasping at the coat tails of Hewlett Packard and it shows. I own an older Packard Bell Club machine with a Cyrix II processor. To be honest, I was dissapointed with it. It now looks nothing like it did inside before I got my hands on it. This is because the equipment shipped with these machines is not adequate for modern computing. They look nice ... ...long. I have contemplated replacing more pieces such as the hard drive but it is simply going to be throwing good money after bad. Its time to put this one behind me and buy a new machine. The solution??? Dont buy Packard bell as their components are not that good. ...

I got this PC when it first came out about five years ago, back then it was top of the range. with 32mb 366mhz, 3.1gb!
If you compare it with todays PC's this is sooo bleak. You have to wait ages for it to load up, and when it has it hardly fits anything on it, hardly any games will play on it and you can hardly upgrade it. I think a snail could walk faster than this beast works.
However, it could be ok for a student who has a lot of patience, ...
