. . You can get this type of lock almost anywhere, and pay peanuts, or shell out forty Pounds or more. Take your choice, and buy what you need. Basically, you really do get what you pay for. You can buy via mail order or go online, but brass is heavy, and some firms charge a lot more than the true postage price, also the same applies to the cost of packaging. Padlocks are sold as various types, and these are classed as "long shackle" ones, this ......as other difficult items like chains etc. My experience of using them is on my old Navy kitbag, These locks are difficult to break into, but not impossible. You normally unlock them with a key, which is more awkward than a mortise lock for instance. The locks are made for practical purposes, so are not designed to look pleasing to the eye, although that isn't the point, they are there to do a specific job, and they do it well. You can get these locks almost anywhere, and either pay peanuts, or dish out forty quid of your hard earned cash, you take your choice based on your needs. You really do get what you pay for. You can of course buy via mail order or online, but these are heavy items, so remember the cost of postage and packaging. These locks are available on their own, or as Keyed Alike Padlocks, this just means you can get two padlocks that are opened with the one ......are extremely difficult to break into, but not of course impossible. You have to unlock them with a key, which is more difficult than a mortise lock in a door for instance. The locks themselves, are made for industrial premises, so do not look pleasing to the eye, but that is not the point, they are there to do a job, and do it very well. . . Brass - Let me just explain that brass. is an alloy of copper and zinc, sometimes traces of aluminium are also added. One of the advantages of making Padlocks out of brass, is the fact that it does not rust, although the inside of the padlock is steel, so requires oil now and then - The size of keys may be important to you, they do tend to be a lot smaller than with conventional key operated locks, although you can buy these brass ones with ......ease of fitting - also they are very cheap nowadays - and they provide a visible deterrent, especially if they are a good sized chunk of yellow metal. Disadvantages - they can be forced fairly easily, but not quietly - they are only as strong as the hasp & staple it is on, which in turn are just as strong as the material they are fixed to . - they are open to the elements, so corrosion is a problem. This type of "Keyed alike" padlock is very useful, especially where you need two or three locks, having just the one key makes life that bit easier. Just remember that the inside of the padlock is steel, so it requires oil now and then - The size of keys may be important to you, these are a lot smaller than those provided with conventional locks, also they are very cheap nowadays - They do provide a visible deterrent, especially if they are a good ......of three of these on the in-laws shed, these particular locks were made by Legge, although there are hundreds of different manufacturers.The shed looks like Fort Knox, it looks very secure indeed, although in reality, all the locks are fixed to the same piece of flimsy wood.
