Dulux Weathershield Smooth Masonry Paint
Advantages: Rainproof in 30 minutes Disadvantages: Spillages need to be wiped up to avoid staining
...outside of my house with Dulux Weathershield textured masonry paint. This paint contains an acryylic resin which guarantees protection from all types of weather for up to 15 years. It can be bought in 2.5l or 5l tins. Normal price for a 5L tin is £23.99 but it is on offer in June at Focus for 3 tins for the price of 2. It can be used on dry exterior rendering and masonry and even brick and is mould and algae resistant. It comes in a range of colours ... ...covers about 45 square metres and is rainproof in 30 minutes - something to consider with the British climate! However, it usually takes about 4 hours to thoroughly dry. The texture of the paint is like double cream and can be applied with either a roller or brush. It is very easy to apply and covers the walls well. I applied quite a bit to make sure the wall was covered well, so that I didn't have to do a second coat. However it is important to ...

WATCH OUT FOR BLISTERS
Advantages: easy to use, coats well and dries quickly Disadvantages: doesnt cover darker paints with the recommended coats
I chose Dulux for no particular reason other than it was a name I was familiar with, not being heavily into DIY, I assumed it was a good make of paint. Having a lot of gaudy coloured paintwork to restore to white, I bought a large tin of quick drying wood primer and undercoat. Two and a half litres cost £19.98 from B&Q.
The tin claims it is a combined primer and undercoat for ‘most’ new or bare wood either interior or exterior. Woods ... ...wood, then 2 coats of Dulux quick drying wood primer and undercoat will be sufficient. For already painted areas then the tin claims that one coat should be sufficient. Guess again! This guideline may be sufficient for ‘white’ or very light coloured areas of wood. As I have already mentioned the house we have just moved into has lime green and pink doors, with lime green woodwork. I have already given the doors and woodwork 2 coats of ...

a new lease of life for tired furniture
Advantages: easy to use Disadvantages: none
after stripping our hall back to natural wood i wanted wooden doors to match but couldnt afford to change all of our interior doors so i brought a box of this from B&Q. In the box you get two tins, a base coat and a grain coat along with two rubber tools for making the grain imprint.
This is realy simple to use, you paint your door with the base coat untill you have an even coverage, my doors took two coats but when i decided to turn my black ash ... ...to dry out for a good few hours before applying the grain coat, once you have applied the grain coat you need to run the graining tools around to make the desired pattern, dont worry if it doesnt look right first go all you need to do is run your brush over it and start again, it will look lovely in the end.
To get a wood grain effect i found it best to put streaks into it with the one tool then run the grain tool down after, keep blotting your ...

Great paint from Homebase
Advantages: use on all materials, good value Disadvantages: none
...recently bought some paint from Homebase and was suprised by the range and quality of their range. The product I bought was the all purpose primer. This provides an excellant base for undercoat and then gloss paints on wood - having spent out on new skirting boards thought it best not to skimp on the finishing. The paint was easy to use, requiring little stirring, didn't run and dried fairly quickly. Being all purpose this can also be used on metal ...
