Dulux Weathershield white gloss for external use

Advantages: Very durable - excellent gloss retention
Disadvantages: Very slightly more expensive

...painter/decorator he suggested I use Dulux Weathershield that was available from my local trade outlet. Although this product is slightly more expensive it has proved to be excellent value. I sanded down the old paintwork, applied primer to exposed surfaces, one coat of Dulux Weatershield undercoat and finished it off with one coat of Dulux Weathershield gloss. Five years later all I needed to do was to rub down and patch paint the lower part of ...

Worst paint I've ever used

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Expensive, too thick, difficult to apply, poor finish, needs more than one coat!

I used the magnolia Solo 'Best One Coat' and I have to say that it's the worst paint I've ever used. It's extremely thick (even after stirring) and very difficult to apply evenly with a roller. It seems to get thicker and thicker as you're using it until eventually it's like painting with glue! Despite taking great care when applying it, the finish is very poor, with visible differences in color and a strange 'plasticky' texture in places. And on ...

Wonderfully bright

Advantages: Smooth finish - colour depth
Disadvantages: cost

I have recently used Farrow and Ball for the first time in my living room, I was absolutely delighted when I discovered it only needed one coat and the paint went on like a dream. The person in the shop explained to me about the pigments they use to make their colours and it really does make the difference. I have painted some of the house in different, slightly less expensive paints and I really wish I could afford to do my whole house in F&B. I ...
...definitely worth the money and the paint goes a long way. My room has gone from a long and slightly dark room to a large, spacious light and airy lounge. The difference with other main brand paints is the depth of colour. At different times of the day the colour in the room changes slightly, it gives the room character and makes it look absolutely fabulous. ...

Dulux Weathershield Smooth Masonry Paint

Advantages: Rainproof in 30 minutes
Disadvantages: Spillages need to be wiped up to avoid staining

...outside of my house with Dulux Weathershield textured masonry paint. This paint contains an acryylic resin which guarantees protection from all types of weather for up to 15 years. It can be bought in 2.5l or 5l tins. Normal price for a 5L tin is £23.99 but it is on offer in June at Focus for 3 tins for the price of 2. It can be used on dry exterior rendering and masonry and even brick and is mould and algae resistant. It comes in a range of colours ...
...covers about 45 square metres and is rainproof in 30 minutes - something to consider with the British climate! However, it usually takes about 4 hours to thoroughly dry. The texture of the paint is like double cream and can be applied with either a roller or brush. It is very easy to apply and covers the walls well. I applied quite a bit to make sure the wall was covered well, so that I didn't have to do a second coat. However it is important to ...

Dulux Weathershield Smooth

Advantages: Covers Brilliantly, Range of Colours, 15 year guarantee, UV protected
Disadvantages: Dearer than some other makes

...I bought 5 litres of Dulux Weathershield Smooth (in magnolia) from Focus DIY for £22.99, much dearer than Focus's own version, but when you consider what it will have to put up with, very hot weather, freezing weather, direct sunlight, rain etc, I took the advise I had been given, and avoided the cheaper option, the Dulux brand also comes with a 15 year guarantee, and it is claimed to be specially formulated to withstand UV rays, which is good on ...
...and a large 5" brush for the edges. I watered the paint down as directed, I found it much easier to put some paint in a bucket, and add the water, it is much easier to mix it this way. Sure enough, the watered down paint was quickly and easily absorbed into the bare wall, and due to the absorption, dried very quickly. Once the initial coat was completed, the wall looked like an old faded chess board; I convinced myself that the second coat would ...
