Review of "Paladone Desktop Henry Vacuum Cleaner"
Henry is an iconic vacuum cleaner who is loved not only for his smiley face but also his ability to clean up messes, he is used by cleaners and builders especially and the man who just serviced my gas had a Henry to clean my chimney with! Henry is now available in miniature form, the desk vacuum cleaner claims to be the ideal solution for sucking up all the crumbs and debris left on your desk but does he live up to the standards set by his big brother? The first thing that you will notice about Henry is how similar he is to the full sized model, the detailing on him is amazing down to the curved carry handle, wheels and air vents. He takes 3AA batteries which are inserted under his black hat, he is an energy hungry little fella and I found the batteries did not last very long at all. Inside his body there are a couple of tools which fit onto his hose, a crevice tool which claims to be able to get into tight spaces and a standard floor head.
To use Henry is simple, you just choose which head you want to use and attach it to the hose and switch him on by pressing a little black button on the top of his hat. He makes a whining noise when you switch him on which doesn’t go very well with his smiley little expression. You can manoeuvre Henry about your desk by pulling on the hose but you will find that the hose is inflexible and that he is unstable and as his wheels are tiny and only allow him to go forwards and backwards he may take a tumble. You therefore need to move him by holding his entire body.Henry doesn’t work very well I’m afraid. Yes, he does suck up crumbs but he is severely lacking in power so it would be far quicker to either sweep them up with a brush or take a full sized vacuum cleaner to them. His crevice tool is too big to fit properly between the keys of a standard keyboard so he is not much use there either although I am going to give this tool a try in my car to get between the seats and handbrake! I gave him a try on the floor and he was able to pick up the relatively large pieces of cat litter my kitty tracks everywhere one at a time. Emptying him is simple, just unscrew the hat and pour the contents of the dust collection chamber into the bin and give his inside a quick wipe with a damp cloth to keep him sparkling. The chamber for collecting dirt is far too big for any dirt he will pick up, it would take hours to fill it up.
Henry looks cute, a bright red smiley miniature version of the real thing and he is solidly constructed but apart from that he has very little going for him. Instead of being a functional desk cleaner he is more of a novelty gift that you would use once and then give to the charity shop or a pretty ornament for your shelf. He costs around the £10 mark from Amazon and other retailers which is fairly poor value for what you get for your money.
