Beware colour equals sloth

Advantages Very cool and sexy!
Disadvantages Noticeably slow (though perhaps only if you've used another PDA)
The thing they don't point out on the box (or the website) about colour handhelds - and this counts as much for other products as for this one - is that 8 times the number of colours means 8 times the amount of memory used to render the picture, and what that means is that the colour handhelds are MUCH slower than other ones, and if you've used a black and white one you'll soon notice the difference, which you won't be pleased with. Otherwise this organiser has all the usual great features, but unless you're incredibly fashion concious or rich there is no point forking out for a product that only does what the black and white ones do, and much slower - if, granted, more prettily. I'd avoid it.

I haven't noticed that the palmIIIc is slower than many other products, (having tested several and having used a handspring visor). Maybe the writer has too much stuff clogging up his memory. I have noticed that the backlighting and colour are particularly helpful in dim light or on the bus. My palm pilot was only a bit more expensive than comparative black and white products and the shape is much easier to handle than a Psion when on the go. I agree that most of the PDAs don't differ much, but a metal stylus and backlighting make the palmIIIc convenient and sturdy for people who aren't rich or fashion conscious, but want something which will work in various conditions and last. If you sit in the office all day, get a cheap black and white one, it won't make a difference. But if you want something that will last and is used for more than playing games and keeping phone numbers, I recommend the palmIIIc.

Spending a bit more for colour is well worth it. When using applications like AlbumToGo and Avantgo, the Palm IIIc comes into it's own. Add the fun aspect, in terms of gaming, and you end up with an allround package which can compete with a Gameboy and most PDA's. It does it's job well and looks good too!
