5 Reasons I think the Palm T/X is a great find. I began my PDA journey with the Handspring Visor , outgrew it and moved on to Handspring Visor Deluxe; bought most of the springboard modules, fax/modem, camera, memory, keyboard, etc and finally sold it and turned to the (all in one) Sony Clie NR70V (which I subsequently over worked and burned out). Thus began my 2 year search for a better PDA. I don't know why it took me so long to come back to the originator of the PDA, but I choose the Palm T/X, for five reasons.
1. It's a Palm! One of the ONLY businesses that's still in the business of making and supporting PDA's. I have nothing against the Blackberry, Treo, I-Phone or others, but it's comforting to know that the product I bought is backed by the same business that started it. (what happened to Handspring, the Sony Clie' line, and others?
2. The Palm T/X does what a PDA is supposed to do...manage your personal, professional and business information. No- it doesn't have a little camera that takes still photos or a short video clip, but how many people who have camera phones use them for real photography anyway. I have a digital camera with 6.1 megapixels if I want to take a picture worth developing. No- my Palm T/X does not double as a cell phone. I have a cell phone with one of the lowest rates around. When I get a call on my cell phone I don't have to "write" down the information somewhere else then enter it into my PDA...my PDA is ready for use right now!
3. I can actually use my PDA as a multi-media device! I already have dozens of songs saved that I can listen to while I'm doing something else. I have several programs I use for lectures and presentations as well as for writing.
4. WiFi is available! My Palm T/X picks up WiFi at the local university, nearly every fast food place and major hotel chains as well as our local library...for free. I can surf the net, check my e-mail, and generally do what I would be doing on my bulky desktop or slightly less cumbersome laptop.
5. Plenty-O-Software Applications! I never have to worry that I won't be able to find an entertaining game or interesting application for my PDA. There are still a lot of Palm OS designers out there who are making some really GOOD stuff! Unlike other systems which seem to have a perpetual "COMING SOON" attitude toward software, Palm is more like "...THIS JUST IN!" I hope that helps...now for the Not-so-good
I don't like the incompatibility with Vista. I have a brand new laptop which came with Vista installed and even with the latest download 4.1.4e Palm T/X does not play well with Vista. I can neither cable/cradle hotsync, nor can I Bluetooth hotsync. My solution - hotsync to my desktop running XP and just download information through my SD Card and my laptop if needed. ('nuff said) I'm also not crazy about the standard flip cover case. I think they could have done much better coming out of the box...the flip cover is pretty much worthless so I'll be investing in a better carrier soon.
Advantages: Modernized for communications Disadvantages: Steps backward for user-friendliness
A step backward from the Tungsten T, my previous palm. The T/X has not moved forward, design-wise. And cut some useful features. No charge-indicator LED. Screen less responsive. It seems like its forever resetting itself, losing a number of settings along the way. Bottom of screen permanent virtual buttons are not user-configurable! BAD! This is not a happy camper! And this: now extra $ for cradle, which is badly designed, with insufficient place ... ...full-time glow. T/X has no "back" button, like on Sony palms, that was a brilliant function for navigation. Tungsten spring-loaded stylus was lightning fast to deploy, even in hardshell case. Latter case also allowed headphones. Now T/X has done away with both possibilities. Awkward to use. And apparently a slower processor than in its immediate predecessor. Seems like they are slowly closing down their business. Perhaps because of Treo phones? Too ...

Advantages: handheld pc, smaller than laptop Disadvantages: no camera or would have 5 stars
...converts it digitally. Palm dock allows you to synch with your PC and charge your palm which last upto 2 weeks for me as it turns itself off when not in use. Its quite slimline with a big screen, and navigation controls are very neat it even finds hotspots automatically. ...

Advantages: It has loads of applications for every day business Disadvantages: Software quite User-unfriendly
I received the PALM T/X as a present and at the time the only data bank / portable personal data tool I had was an old Casio personal agenda.
The PALM T/X is a very good device to store personal data, like Calendar, Phone book, etc. Also, I soon bought a 2Gb memory card, which allowed to greatly upgrade the device standard memory. One issue I found is the memory slot: in fact, there is no protection for the meory card, which may be accidentally ... ...example when transporting the Palm in the pocket.
Other not-good characteristic is the software interface, which is quite User-unfriendly and old-looking and when accessing some applications it does not allow to close them. Time to time I observed crashes, however, it is easy to recover from them.
Other than that, this is a very useful and good device, which, despite its drawbacks, I recommend. ...

Advantages: Large viewing area, Large memory, Wi-Fi. Fast Disadvantages: No microphone.
Having had a Palm Tungsten T, for about 3 years I decided to update, and went for the Palm T|X, and what a piece of kit! it blows anything else I have used out of the water!
I use it for work and pleasure and would be totally lost with out it (It also can be used as a Sat Nav system as well)
With its large viewing area it's great to surf the web via the built in Wi-Fi or through your GPRS phone via bluetooth. The screen can be rotated to landscape ... ...a film. Or just listen to some music with the built in MP3 player software.
The only thing that it does not do is record memos like the Palm Tungsten T can. But with all the other benfits I can live with out that.
Would recommend to anyone! ...

Advantages: Great Interface, Palm; Easy-To-Use-Buttons. Disadvantages: Not Windows. Palm has Hotsync, but it is not very good or fast.
...to you in the easy-to-use palm interface.
Right from the old school palms, with black and white screens, Palm has used their icon-based operating system to sell their well designed product to us!
Handspring combined the power of a phone to some palm-handspring PDAs and that worked well, but Palms focus was changing. They wanted to make easy-to-use products that people would buy because they look great and perform fast and because they were Palm!

...OK, so first the obvious - The 'U' in N650U means 'USB', so unless you know you have a USB port on your computer, don't go here. I have a family member who would like to steal my new scanner, but he can't :-)
I read Ciao, and I read DooYoo looking for advice on a good scanner, and both sites pointed me at the Canon N650U. Not because it is the absolute best, but because it is:
a) Sensibly priced. It can be had for between £50 and £70 depending on where its bought, and what discount vouchers you have in your sweaty palm this week.
b) Better than a home user is ever likely to need. 1200x600 doesn't sound like much these days, but it is all you are ever likely to need unless you plan on doing photo-editing at a professional level.
c) Pretty quick. With my old parallel scanner, I could go and make a cuppa while I waited...

Advantages: Small, 8Mb memory hard to fill Disadvantages: Need to travel with a recharger
...Think about it. What do you really want from a palmtop ? On a screen that will fit into your pocket, do you really want colour ?
I made my palmtop decision a couple of years ago now, before colour screens came into the mainstream as an option - and today I am still perfectly happy with the mono screen on my Palm V(x).
Perhaps my usage of a palmtop is significantly different from others, perhaps not. I don't need a palmtop that will provide pixel perfect, colour images of a webpage as my desktop machine might. I appreciate being able to run a browser on my palmtop but, as I am usually using it coupled with a mobile phone and am therefore limited to a mere 9600 baud (or 28k8 if I'm using an HSCSD equipped handset), I'm pretty happy to be downloading 'minimalist' web pages.
So, what do *I* need/use my Palm for ?
o It is *great...
