The PalmOne Treo 650 is a very expensive phone / PDA. Fortunately the company I work for supplies this to me other wise I probably would not have given it a second glance.
The Treo 650 looks a tidy aesthetically pleasing item, with a reasonable size screen showing 320 x 320 pixel resolution and is touch sensitive. The keyboard on the Treo 650 is a delight, it sits underneath the screen and has large sized buttons with a raised face to allow quick correct typing. The navigation button sits between the screen and the keyboard in the centre of the phone. There are six more buttons along side this and are basic quick launch buttons to save you scrolling through the menu, I like this as it can save you a lot of time. Along with the main menu button and all the extra's you can access the menu directly from the touch sensitive screen which many will find much easier. There one other thing I really like about this, how many times have you been out somewhere and your phone has rang or made some sort of noise at the least convenient time, well this has a neat and simple silence switch on the top of the casing next to SD card slot which turns all sound off.
The Treo 650 has a camera which takes stills and video but the stills resolution is only 640x480 so it's not the best PDA on the market for taking photos. Real player come built in on this and enables you to listen to mp3's and videos. The only down side is that real player will only read files from an SD card so you would have to buy one of these as well. There is another advantage to buying an SD card as it will increase the memory of this PDA dramatically, without one of these the PDA only supplies 21MB of internal memory which is not a great amount. You also get VerseMail pre-installed which is for email on the move. This will automatically check your emails and the documents to go software will allow you to read attachments in Word, Excel and PowerPoint formats. Blazer is PalmOnes own browser and lets you browse the web save files, screen, and pictures for you to view of line. It also comes with the standard functions of calendar, diary, calculator, world clock, alarm, MMS and SMS. Blue tooth is built into this and PalmOne has put an icon for it on the application launcher screen.
The Treo 650 works well as a phone, it has quick access to stored contacts. The quality and strength of call is clear and strong. The sim card fits into the top of the phone which is easily accessible.
The Treo 650 has a good battery life and can last around 50 hours without being recharged although this will depend on what functions you are using it for.
Specifications :-
- Width 59mm, Height 113mm (125mm with antenna), Depth 23mm - Weight of 179g - 360 mins of talk time - Standby time 300hours - Garnet 5.4.5 operating system
You will need to be running ms windows 2000 or XP for compatibility
Accessories Included :-
Mains power cable, Synchronisation cable, CD with desktop synchronisation software and extra applications.
Overall this will appeal to business people or people who need to stay in touch whilst on the move. With good features and reasonable performance this is a good all rounder. It feels nice and comfortable in your hand and the build quality is good and feels robust, it is just about small enough to put in your pocket depending on the size of you rpocket that is.
