Horrible device. The company I work for gave me a UK Vodafone-branded Palm Treo 750v, with the good (www.good.com) software preinstalled for email connectivity and sync with the corporate exchange server.
Battery life: extremely poor. If I fully charge the telephone in the evening, it is fully dead in less than 24 hours. And we're talking about standby time, not actual usage: I tried this on weekends, when I received no emails nor calls, nor made any myself. My private phone is a Nokia E-61 set up as a Blackberry, and even with moderate usage, battery lasts from 3 to 7 days. No comparison at all.
Power: You cannot turn the phone off. This is so stupid! You can disable the phone (offline - flight safe mode) but you cannot switch it off unless you physically remove the battery. Since, during take off and landing, all electronic devices must be switched off, you either disobey safety regulations or are forced to manually and brutally remove the battery. Insanely stupid!
Touch screen and stylus: some people love it, some hate it. I personally hate it. I think a keyboard-only system is faster; I can't use the stylus if I'm traveling (underground, car, bus, etc) and the ride is bumpy. But what I find the most irritating is that, when I use it as a telephone and therefore bring it close to my ear, my ear touches the touchscreen and activates all sort of unwanted programs/functions. So I should remember to set a keyboard lock before using it as a telephone. Very annoying.
Software: My Treo runs Microsoft Windows Mobile. I must say it is slightly faster than the Nokia software, but certainly not as reliable. I find it very irritating that, once a program is run, it stays in the memory unless you go to to the taskmanager and specifically force it to shut down. What a waste of resources! But that's clearly Microsoft-style.
One final note: my experience and opinions are shared by all of my colleagues who are forced to use it. Our IT department - on which I'd rather not comment - does not approve of the use of Blackberrys because apparently Treos are more secure, or so they say. But, since Treos are terrible phones, most of us in the office now carry both a Treo and a proper mobile phone. What a waste and what an inconvenience!
