As someone who constantly forgets meeting addresses phones numbers I decided maybe it was about time I bought something the might be able to help me organise my life.

Its priced at around £250 from retailers so I opted to buy the unit nearly new off of ebay for £150 it arrived boxed with manuals two days later.
On pulling it out of the box I found the palm with a lather face cover charger manuals and usb cable. The device itself look very appealing small and light you can fit it into your shirt pocket though its slightly its heavier than a pocket calculator.
The screen is crisp and bright menu buttons obvious and easy to use. Handwriting recogntion is ok I seem to have a problem writing t sometimes. I must say personally I would prefer the tiny keyboards found on the Zaurus or blackberry.
Functionality is excellent the calendar, task manager and address book are a dream to use present relavent infomation and input is simple. Its clear a lot of effort has gone onto these features.
Battery life is great certainly a lot better than the Sharp Zaurus I used to own.
Life drive, the device has an inbuilt 256 mb of memory which is directly accessable as a hard drive much like a usb memory pen or floppy drive. This feature has to be activated on the palm but it works really well for transferring files on both mac and pc.
The sync software proved to be a bit of a pain its was simple enough to install though it forced me to register the deivce (on the mac). The problem is the initial install only gives you palms desktop software with no like to the apple utils. In order to get palm to talk to isync you need to follow a rather bizzare procedure of downloading apple palm sync conduit adding the conduit to palm sync checking a box in the settings which turn on sync with isync.
I also adivse downloading the latest version of palms software which has many enhancements including an update for the Unit Though updating the t5 software is a pain it reboots then you *must delete thefiles from the backup directory* or the unit will attempt to update itself each time you sync.
On the subject of syncing bth my Powerbook and the Palm have inbuilt bluetooth so I had hoped to be able to sync wirelessly. This is technically possible but I wasnt able to get it working, nor was I able to get irda (ifraread to my phone working) though to be honest I didnt try too hard.
There is updated PC software.
Lack of Wifi was a bit of a dissapointment Palm have certainly missed a trick by making this an additional extra. I think in the USA there are better price plans for mobile data so bluetooth over gprs / 3g is acceptable. y mobile operator charges a premium for data so until I buy a wifi card I wont be doing any surfing on the pda.
Overall ************************
Despite a few niggles with connectivity I have found this to be an excellent device for organising storing appointments and addresses. The drive feature is also really useful for moving data or backing up the odd important file. You can also use it as a media device to atch movies (the screen is certainly god enough or as an mp3 player. The only real features I would want are wifi wireless networking and a voice memo record function. That aside if you want a personal organiser which does personal organiser functions well the Palm is a great choice.
Advantages: Compatability with both PC and Mac without needing 3rd party software Disadvantages: Battery life could be better.
...I opted for the Palm Tungsten T5 with Tomtom Navigator 5 at a price of £419.48 including a hard case. It arrived a couple of days later and the challenge of making it work the way i wanted it to began.
The manual is not that detailed and a lot of playing around is needed to fully understand how it functions. The online help however is very comprehensive and the quick tour on the machine shows most of the functionality.
I have found that true to ... ...graphics along with all the useful functions a PDA should have and there seems to be a limitless source of software add ons available.
As standard Software the unit boasts
Calculator
Contacts
Phone Dialler
Expenses
Memos
Note Pad
Real Player
Tasks
VersaMail and web (via bluetooth to a GPRS phone or web connected computer)
World Clock
Word documents and spread sheets are of a high standard and it also has a plethora of other programs and ...

I've been using my T5 for about 9 months now and its definitely come in handy. You can synchronise with Outlook so you can carry around your email, tasks, contacts, memos, and create new Outlook items on the PDA and synch the other way too.
There is a wide range of products you can download from Palms website, including various organisers, converters and games. All priced within £4.99 up to £24.99. And of course you can download and install free ... ...comes with 256MB of space but its actually 215MB of accessible storage space. Thats 215MB for your files (MS office files, Versamail items, mp3s, jpgs etc) and 55MB of application space. Its a shame its split as you can quickly fill up the 55MB with software.
As shown in the photo it doesn't have a slider to get to the buttons as in previous models in the Tungsten range. Its about the same size as the T3 just without the slider.
It has Bluetooth ...

Advantages: Very reliable, fast, THOUSANDS!!! of accessories, Upgradeable OS to 4.1, good amount of memory (8MB) Disadvantages: It doesn't to exactly everything today's handhelds can do now...
I find the Palm Vx is just a great organiser. I mean, it's so slim, and not to mention there are literally MILLIONS of accessories available for it! At this time of year (2008) I'm sure most of us will go out and buy a new PDA. But, with the thousands of Palm softwares available and most work with OS 3.5-4.1 (with the upgrade) still. I think it's the best Palm device yet (and the TungstenT3), they've put a lot of work into it at the time and was groundbreaking technology that could be fit into such a small package. I'm still using mine and it works perfectly. And it's great to know that there are accessories like a bluetooth adapter for it, GSM modem, standard modem, and tons more.
Now, to the real stuff.
It's very snappy (20MHZ!!) and 8MB is plenty for most users even today considering Palm applications are very small. Although ...

Manufacturer's product description
With great amount of storage, the Tungsten T5 handheld from palmOne lets you carry more and do more. Word documents. Spreadsheets. PowerPoint presentations. Photos. MP3s. The works. And because it's flash memory, all that information is saved even if the power runs down when you're on the go and don't have time to recharge or synchronize. Better yet, the stunning 320 x 480 color screen lets you see more in both landscape and portrait modes. The real beauty of the Tungsten T5? You can transfer files and even whole folders from your desktop to your handheld, so you have what you need on the road, in a meeting, or when working from home. Even use it like a USB removable drive to work on those files on another computer. Just when you're thinking there couldn't be room for anything more, with built-in Bluetooth wireless technology you can check email and connect to the Internet on the go. All this and the Tungsten T5 still fit right in your pocket. This product comes with Cradle Kit.
