I purchased my PALM V at the beginning of the school year. I'm currently a college student, so I find it very important to get things organized.

The Palm V does most everything you can imagine. Included in the PDA: daily planner, phone numbers, Time, Alarm, Games, books, etc. The V is simple, sleek, very light, and extremely useful.
There are a few simple default programs included with the V, but there are tons of applications/utilities/games that you can download either from cnet.com or from palm's very own website.
Some of my programs include: Addresses, Telephone Numbers, Time, Memo Pad (included), Mail (included), To do list (included), Workout(input your exerise workout routine an schedule), Convert-it(convert lots of distances, weights, etc.), Palm mirror ( a mirror), mobile DB (I have the Kama Sutra, Sun Tzu's art of war, as well as Palm Bar, and all the Seinfeld episodes, etc. etc.
Basically, anything you can think would need to get you organized--- Stick-it notes, memo-pads, to do lists, time, alarm, games-- is included.
The Palm V is the sleekest and smallest PDA currently in the market. I've seen the Palm Pilot (the original one), the Palm III, Casios, Philips Nino, etc. and those things are pretty big and hefty. The V easily fits into my pocket; this is its main appeal over the better valued, more chunky IIIe.
I recommend purchasing the metallic carrying case -- Palm Hard case. It was recommended to me by a friend. This was an important buy item for me (in retrospect). I have dropped the PDA a bunch of times; had I not had it, my PDA would have been damaged pretty bad. At 30 bucks, the hard case is well worth it. On a side note, the hard case does make your Palm a bit bigger (area wise) and heftier (almost adds twice the 1/2 the weight of the Palm).
The Bad
--The memory: only 2 MB There is an upgrade of 8 MB currently available: Palm Vx. The price right now that they are charging for the exrtra 6 MB is pretty ridiculous. Once the novelty wears out and the competition increases, the Palm Vx will be worth the buy. I have seen ads in eBay and elsewhere on line, where you can send your Palm V to some guy (might be a sketchy dude) and he will open up your Palm's innards and add more memory, tweaking the wires. He charges about 80 bucks for this service.
--There are so many useless programs for the Palm OS. Finding good ones is half the battle, as I waste countless hours finding and deleting most of the programs after downloading them. I guess this is a con to a pro (so many programs offered).
--Reverse lighting. This is a new feature of the Palms. Other Palms use the normal Indiglo-type lighting. I personally think this reverse lighting is much better (in dark) for viewing than the regular lighting.
--No color. Other PDAs like the HP boast more functions and color. The Palm is advertised as sleek and simple. That's exactly what it is.
--Competition. Handspring has come out with their own product too, but I was reading somewhere that their PDA's don't hot synch correctly.
--The price of the V might also be too much. I spent 360 on it at buy.com but should have waited a little longer. The price runs for about 299. It should drop, however, as competition increases.
--OS. Palm currently uses their own operating system. It's very simple and convenient. Other PDAs use Windows CE which is basically very similar to Windows 95/98.
OVERALL The Palm V is currently the hottest selling PDA around. Long-time PDA users have switched to the Palm V because of its size and its long battery life. (Battery life is much longer and does not take AAA batteries. It can be recharged with the hotsynch cradle). The price is a bit much right now, but I think it is well worth it.
If you are looking for a better priced PDA with m ore punch look for the Palm IIIe.
Advantages: Small, Adaptable, Powerful Disadvantages: Not a huge ammount of memory
...ask any owner of a Palm Pilot is "How has it changed your life?". The wallet sized organiser packs a mighty punch and was one of the first PDA (personal digital assistant) that fits neatly in your pocket.
For anyone who has never seen one of these neat devices it is around the size of a mans wallet and has is basically a screen with four small buttons at the base. There is no keyboard with it (though one is available as an optional extra). Information ... ...as HOTSYNC, that makes the Palm Pilot on of the most versatile tools around. Not only can you back up information and enter data easily but due to the Palm operating system, you can also download extra applications.
These applications vary from a Spreadsheet to a Racing car game and new ones are constantly being developed by Palm programmers around the world. Many are free to download and install though some make a small charge towards the cost ...

Advantages: Fits your work and social life into a small portable space; wide range of downloadable software Disadvantages: Handwriting recognition not perfect
OK, so the Palm V isn't exactly the hottest new thing on the planet. I've had mine for about eighteen months, and it's still going strong.
It's all there - address book, date book, to do list, notepad, calculator. If that isn't enough, hook it up to a PC and you can also download a variety of programs (and there's some good shareware out there) to do anything from play chess (there are plenty of games) to provide recipe ideas. You can send e-mail ... ...of your inbox. And of course, you can keep all the basic application data in step with Outlook (or just about whatever you use).
It's not all been sweetness and light though - the handwriting recognition is not perfect although quite adequate; I've also had a couple of problems with broken buttons, but warranty replacement has been fairly swift considering (about a week).
However, the real reason that I thought it worth writing an opinion on an ...

Advantages: Walking office Disadvantages: The panic attack when I think I've lost it!
I upgraded to the Palm V when it first came out from an original PalmPilot. I had used the pilot extensively but the V had one major advantage; size. I wouldn't carry the Pilot in my shirt pocket as it was slightly too large, but the V is ideal. I carry it whilst at work continuously. This means that whenever I get stopped whilst away from my desk, I can agree to attend a meeting and book it there and then, or search for the info someone has just ... ...months ago. When I get back to my desk, I drop the V onto its cradle and press a button - thats it! Within a few seconds, all of my addresses, diary dates, notes and to-do items are coordinated with Outlook. There are also more add-on programs available for this little puppy than you can shake a stick at, and most are available to try before you buy (if they're not free anyway). ...
Advantages: Easy to carry around, syncs up to everything I need Disadvantages: Can't play MP3s (but you buy an MP3 player for that!)
...my key criteria, and the Palm V has been great on all fronts. I essentially use mine as - a glorified diary (because I need something that will beep at me if I've forgotten something important)
- something to play mind-numbing games on boring (short) train journeys - stuff like patience
- something to sync up with AvantGo to get the Guardian downloaded to give me something to read on my way home from work. The best thing is that the battery will ...

Advantages: Light, good battery life Disadvantages: None
...been a user of the Palm V for nearly a year now, and have no complaints whatsoever.
Firstly, this is no replacement for a PC, and comparing one against a WinCE device is unfair. Yes, I surf the web, have e-mail, and WAP, and even ICQ!
As you may guess, I use the Palm with both a Palm Modem and a mobile phone. Whilst on the road, it is useful for contacts, memo's, to-do list, etc, and also keeping up with e-mail etc. I use mine mainly for the calendar. ... ...Well, because the palm sync's easily with applications such as Outlook and lotus notes. I have lost my palm in the past, and after recieving a replacement, placed this in the craddle, pressed the sync button, and after a short time, all my data and applications where back on the palm as if it was my old one!
Configuring the Palm for mobile data was a bit of a pain. Palm where quite unhelpful in this respect, so, after getting it to work, created ...

Advantages: Small, convenient, easy to use. Disadvantages: Not many. Default alarm sound is a bit too quiet.
I bought this product a month ago, mainly because I needed a small, convenient personal organiser to take with me every day. I was not dissapointed when it arrived. Not only does it have a great operating system that is easy to use, but it has great 'Hotsync' software that automatically updates the records on your PC and on the computer when you press the button on the cable that comes with it.
You can also hotsync by infra red if you have a laptop, and you can beam information to any other Palm device.
The screen is very hi-res and touch sensative. To write text, you draw letters on the screen that are easy to learn and quick to use.
Basically, ANYONE should buy this product. I comes with 2 MB of memory, and will do ALL the things that any other Palm device does.
Perhaps the only down point is the alarm volume. You can miss ...

Advantages: Very nicely spaced keys, full-size, lots of settings in software Disadvantages: None if you're a Palm V or Vx User!
This is a very nice keyboard. Honestly. Unlike the other ones, which have tiny little keys, and feel very cheap, this one is FULL SIZE and really lets you have space like a normal desktop keyboard.
It's very simple to install. All you need to do is insert the installation CDROM, download the keyboard driver to your palm, and it just works. It sets up very easly, it has a built-in flip-up stand to hold up your palm. The PalmV connects to your PalmV using the hotsync connector and stays put very securely. It even comes with a little pouch for you to put it in when not in use. It folds up into a nice little package that weighs about 2 Palm Vx, and is about the thickness of 1 inch.
There are also shortcut keys on the right of the keyboard to control the palm directly from the keyboard. This is perfect for writing long memos, just as ...
I already own a PalmV personally and had the opportunity to test drive the m100 at work.
This is a neat Palm. Slightly smaller screen and case than the V and in a plastic rather than metal case. The main differences are:
Battery: m100 does not have a rechargeable one
Connectivity: there is no cradle as standard, but the supplied cable fits easily. Conduits for Outlook etc are supplied. The only whinge is that the m100 won't fit onto the PalmV/Vx,VII cradles!
Size: this puppy is extremely light. It is also small (about as small as you can go without compromising the ability to write on it!).
Memory: Comes with 2Mb. Not a problem for me (I am used to a PalmV remember).
Applications: all the usual goodies but with a much improved notes program that also lets you draw freehand.
I wish they had these things back when I was ...
