I'd always said that when I got pregnant I'd buy the best product I could against stretchmarks, whatever the cost, as surely it would be a worthwhile investment...
However, when the time came I had a look around Boots & on the internet, & repeatedly exclaimed 'I'm not paying that! It might not even work!'. So, I bought some Palmers Cocoa Butter Lotion for Stretchmarks instead.
I bought some from Wilkinson's where at the time it was a mere £3.99 for a 250ml bottle (most other retailers were around the £5 mark). The lotion comes in a pump action bottle. It's not the easiest of lotions to access - the base of the bottle is rather small & tends to topple quite easily as a fair amount of pressure is required to get any lotion out, otherwise you're left grappling with a smooth bottle & greasy hands which isn't easy either!
The lotion is quite thick, but rubs onto your skin easily. It is however quite greasy & doesn't soak in very well, so I ended up putting it on first thing in the morning & at bedtime when I was in my pyjamas to save getting lotion on my clothes. I always had to wash my hands after use due to the greasiness. Other downsides are the smell - personally I really don't like the scent of cocoa butter, & the fact that when you get to the final 1/5 of the lotion it will not come out! (And I got through 3 bottles & they all had exactly the same problem).
The lotion contains Vitamin E, Collagen, Elastin, Cocoa Butter & Shea Butter, which, according to the bottle, lubricate the skin to help it retain its natural elasticity & moisture.
I used this lotion once or twice a day through the 2nd & 3rd trimesters & have completely avoided any stretchmarks. Whether or not it's the lotion, or just that my skin is elastic enough anyway to have avoided them without the use of any product, who knows....?! In my opinion it was well worth using for the money & certainly can't have done any harm....!
