Palmer's are a brand famous for producing top-quality cocoa and Shea butter skincare products for a low cost. They easily compete with other more expensive brands of cocoa butter and are just as lush to use.
The product I am reviewing is the cocoa butter formula lotion, which is a cream version of the original solid cocoa butter. I first came across this product when I received a free sample of the body butter and wanting to find a more convenient version, I decided I would give this cream a try. From the second I opened the bottle, I loved this product - I mean, who doesn't want to smell like chocolate?! (The best food in the world).
What do the ingredients do and what are the promises?
This product claims to heal and soften rough, dry skin and smooth and blend unattractive marks and scars. It helps tone the skin and is ideal for deep moisturisation, especially overnight treatments. It contains vitamin E that has an antioxidant quality, helping renew cell membranes and reduce scarring. Cocoa butter is a pale yellow, edible vegetable fat of the cacao bean that gives this lotion its colour. It contains natural antioxidants that give it a rich moisturising effect.
Who is this product for?
This is recommended for women who have pregnancy stretch marks or extremely dry skin. I would advise anyone to give it a try though as the added ingredients give it a really nourishing and caring effect. It is perfect for people with sensitive skin as it doesn't contain any added perfume, due to the strong scent of the cocoa butter.
What does the product look like?
Palmer's body lotion is packaged in a rather bland white bottle with a flip-lid that the lotion comes out of. It has a brown banner across the front stating the product name 'cocoa butter formula' and a blue section outlining the properties of the added vitamin E. The bottle has a volume of 250ml which is plenty to last a good few months. The white packaging of the container makes it stand out more in a way as it's really non-descript compared to other known brands. I think it looks like this packaging hasn't changed for about twenty years as it's quite old-fashioned. It is made from recyclable plastic which is a bonus from an environmental point of view.
What is the lotion like?
The lotion is a slightly yellow colour and has a thick consistency, much like any other body butter. You can tell from the richness of the cream that this is a quality product. Even though the cream is quite thick, it absorbs very quickly and doesn't leave any greasy residue on the skin, which is useful when you are wanting to get dressed soon after.
The aroma of this lotion is what first attracted me to it, pretty much because it reminded me so much of my favourite food chocolate. It is definitely what I would describe as yummy, with a mixture of vanilla and chocolate scents coming from the cocoa butter. I prefer this particular scent to other more expensive body butters as the scent appears to be more natural and not full of chemicals that could irritate my skin.
How to use
I would recommend using this lotion after having a bath or shaving your legs as it will be absorbed more readily into the skin. All you have to do to apply it is flip open the lid and squeeze a generous amount of the lotion onto your hand. Then smooth it onto the area you want and it will sink into your skin. You should then wait a short while for it to thoroughly absorb before putting on your clothes, otherwise it can leave unpleasant marks on lighter coloured clothing. The aroma from the lotion stays put nearly all day and compliments sweeter types of perfume.
Does it live up to the promises?
After using this product for a while, I found that my skin was in far better condition and a lot smoother. I noticed a visible improvement in my skin after about two weeks and my skin tone was a lot more even and any red marks had faded. If I used it twice a day, I noticed that my skin was a lot more toned and supple. I'm guessing that this lotion would work for people with stretch marks as the vitamin E included in it helped reduce any red marks I had on my skin.
Price and availability
This lotion has an RRP of £3.58 and is available at most chemists and even some supermarkets, which makes it really easy to find. The price is very reasonably compared to other body butters of the same quality and the size of the bottle means that it lasts a lot longer too. It is often available for a reduced price as well which makes it even better in terms of value for money.
What other products are in the range?
The Palmer's cocoa butter brand offers a range that contains similar nourishing ingredients to the body butter:
Cocoa butter formula tube 100ml- heals and softens rough, dry skin. Helps blend unattractive scars and red marks. £2.75.
Cocoa butter moisturising body oil 25ml- lightly scented, fast absorbing, leaves skin silky soft. For use in the bath or shower. £3.59.
Cocoa butter formula swivel stick 14g- for marks, blemishes and rough, dry skin. Handy size for your handbag. £1.99.
There is also a small range of hair care products available.
Advantages
- The size of bottle lasts a long time. - The flip-style lid prevents spillage. - The scent is absolutely heavenly. - The price is very reasonable compared to similar known brands.
Disadvantages
- The cream may be too rich for some skin types. - Sometimes the cream gets congealed in the lid and it's difficult to squeeze out. - Not everyone likes the sweet scent. - Unimaginative packaging, but I suppose this makes it more distinctive.
Would I recommend?
I would recommend using this product as a once a week treatment as it would be too rich for most skin types. I definitely think it lives up to my expectations in terms of how well it moisturises the skin, but I cant really comment on how well it gets rid of pregnancy marks as I've never had that luxury. It is by far the best body moisturiser as it always leaves my skin smooth and free of any irritations and can be used all over the body.

...are very good I discovered Palmers was just the best! So why do I love it so much? Firstly I love the smell, a rich, yummy chocolaty scent that you cannot wait to smother yourself in and yet at the same time the smell isn’t overpowering. You could imagine the chocolatiness of it all to be sickly, but it’s surprisingly fresh. And while the smell does stay on your skin it won’t out do any other scent you choose to wear. However if smell isn’t your ... ...But I would still advise anyone to give it a go, no matter their skin type. Palmers also offer a wide range of other moisturising products which may be more suitable for your needs, however I only really know this product but I would recommend them as a brand. ...

Ive tried many lotions and potions that im encouraged to try from those skinny waifs on the television who have perfect figures and not a stretch mark or an inch of flab to be seen on them, but still im sucked into trying them out..... but i always revert back to my old trusty faithful 'Palmers Cocoa Butter'.

When you take off the lid the first thing you notice is the sweet smell, it reminds me of Easter Eggs for some reason and it does linger for a long period of time, by the time you have finished covering yourself in it, you are almost good enough to eat.

...a recommendation from my sister Palmers Cocoa Butter seemed a good option for the moisturiser, so when wandering around Tescos killing time between my morning swim and the need to get to work I picked up a bottle. Palmers also tell you that the product is not tested on animals which is to be commended and that once opened it should be used within 12 months. Oh dear, I am back in the girls world again..maybe it's a sign that I have been living with my girlfriend for too long but hey, it's the 21st century and I'm a modern man. I will review Cocoa Butter cream with PRIDE!!
My girlfriend uses this stuff all the time, there is a huge range, from lip salve to body oil to creams. The product I will review here is the ALL OVER BODY BUTTER. It comes in a 10 oz large tub and costs around £4, more if you buy ... ...a cream but the tubs do seem to last for ages so it makes sense in the long run.
The cream is very thick, like butter and you only need to use a tiny amount otherwise it can be quite greasy. Also, if you put your clothes on too quick (ie before it has dried) you may leave marks on your clothes-so get naked! Oh and put a bowl of water next to your radiators as it puts some moisture back in the air which the central heating takes away. I know that ...

Review of Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula (With a new Flip Bottle!)
I noticed a sample sachet of this product in a Glamour Magazine, which I thought I would try-out on my skin that evening. I get quite dry skin on my elbows and knees and my Husband in particular has very dry elbows and some marks on his back. I moisturise everyday with a mixture of lotions and potions including Body Shop Body Butters and other brand. I really didn’t think I could ... ...Butters, which are so luxurious and creamy-but I think I may have found one!
Price: I loved the sample sachet of this product so much, I went straight out the next day to purchase a full bottle of the stuff! I went to my local Superdrug store and was so please that they had it in stock and that it was on offer at just under £3 for a 250ml bottle. The usual price is just over £3 which I thought was quite good anyway. I was very pleased with the price ...

I have been using 'PalmersCocoaButter' on and off for many years. PalmersCocoaButter retails for about £4 - £4.99 for the 270g pack. I buy mine at the local beauty shop and have also bought it in Superdrug previously..
It comes in a large white opaque round jar with a white screw top cover with the words 'Palmer's' in an orange caption and the 'CocoaButter Formula' in white letters with a brown caption box..
The rest of the jar has words 'with Vitamin E' and 'Heals & Softens rough, Dry skin' and 'Smoothes Marks & Scars' on the front.
The product itself is a dark cream (almost yellow) body butter with a smooth feel. PalmersCocoaButter has a sweet noticeable coconut scent on opening the jar and this scent remains long after application to the skin.
It contains Cocoa extract, Mineral Oil, Cocoa Seed Butter, Fragrance ...
Advantages: Great creamy, thick texture. Good purchase price. Last along time, the smell of the product! Disadvantages: As the bottle gets towards empty it is difficult to get the last bits of cream out
It was when I returned from a holiday and went to see a friend that I first discovered the wonderful world of PalmersCocoaButter. At the time I was experiencing horrible peeling skin and had a rapidly disappearing sun tan when my friend advised me that I needed to slap some moisturiser on and quick! I informed I had but she went and got me her regular moisturiser from her bathroom cupboard, this was the PalmersCocoaButter, since that day and I am talking way over 7 years I have been using the CocoaButter.
The Palmers brand was formed over 160 years ago in America and was one of the first skin care companies. The brand has gone from strength to strength and now has many products available on the market. Not only do Palmers offer the CocoaButter formula there is an extensive list of other items available such as;
