Milk and honey. Conjures up lovely images, doesn’t it? Well, that’s what I thought when I was looking for a new shower cream and Palmolive’s Naturals range caught my eye. In reality, bathing in milk and honey would probably leave you smelling a bit sour and feeling very sticky, but it’s proof of the power of marketing that the mental images I have been given by the name are more to do with Cleopatra than the unpleasant reality.
Milk and honey is one of three varieties in the range, featuring natural sounding ingredients (but in reality containing as many un-natural sounding things as any other skin product!) each of which are for different skin types. This particular one is for extra dry skin. I suffer from very dry skin on my arms and legs in the winter and although I would never rely on a shower cream alone to combat this, every little helps, so I normally go for one designed for my skin type. The colour scheme of the bottle is a creamy yellow and white, with Palmolive’s usual dark green writing and a little picture of a honeycomb dripping honey into a milky sea below – which is admittedly very tempting, just in case the mellifluous name had not already convinced you of the luxury of the product!
The product itself is definitely a cream rather than a gel. It is a creamy yellow in colour and fairly thick in consistency – so it’s easy to squeeze some out into your hand and keep it there. Personally, I always use a shower puff to wash with in the shower as I find it’s easier to get a good lather and makes any shower gel or body cream go a lot further.
This is no exception, and a small, 50p sized blob on a shower puff is more than enough to wash all over. Whoever invented the shower puff certainly must be hated by shower gel manufacturers the world over, as he or she is probably single-handedly responsible for shower gels lasting twice as long before needing to be replaced! It's also worth mentioning that the cream is gentle enough to use on even the most intimate areas of the body without irritation.
The cream produces a good lather, but here is where the first disappointment comes up. I would expect a shower cream, with such a creamy and luxuriant name, to produce thick, creamy bubbles. As a benchmark for this, I think back to my experience of Olay’s famous cream body wash, which lathers up into the richest, creamiest bubbles ever. Unfortunately the Palmolive cream is nothing like this and the bubbles are no different from those produced by any other shower gel.
My other disappointment was the smell. I have to admit to having opened the bottle in Tesco’s before making my purchase and having a furtive sniff to make sure the smell was to my liking, and it was. A rich, creamy scent, with a definite hint of honey hits you as soon as you sniff the bottle, and lingers as you squeeze out the cream. Unfortunately, however, once you add water and create a lather, this creamy smell fades away into the background, to be joined by a very fresh, but non-descript smell, which once again is reminiscent of non-descript shower gels in general. There is certainly no strong, sugary honey smell to be detected. With other creamy body washes (thinking once again back to Olay), there is a really luxurious, creamy smell that lingers in the bathroom after showering and lingers on your skin all day. With this, however, the bathroom smells fresh but unremarkable, and my skin also smells fresh and clean, but there is no lingering honey smell as I would expect.
My final gripe is the packaging. The bottle is reminiscent of a flattened egg shape with a flat bottom, enabling it to sit squatly on the side of the bath or on the shelf in the shower (unfortunately for anyone with a shower cubicle with no shelves, there’s no means by which to hang it up). It’s quite a nice shape, but its curved top means that the flip up lid is a flimsy, sharp-edged piece of curved plastic, which is not particularly easy to pop open, and looks as if it might break off at any minute. Of course, the other disadvantage of this shape is that it’s impossible to balance it upside-down to get the last drops of cream to come out. I nearly discarded it once I’d got as much out as I could just by squeezing it enthusiastically, but decided to try wedging it upright amongst some other bottles. Doing this enabled me to get another two uses out of the bottle, which otherwise would have gone to waste.
Putting all my moans aside, this is a perfectly good shower cream. It smells nice, even if the smell doesn’t linger, it does its job well, leaving skin feeling clean, fresh and moisturised (although admittedly not moisturised enough to forego using a separate skin moisturiser). It just won’t bowl you over with its smell, which is disappointing when the name promises something so deliciously luxurious. At £1.66 for 250 ml, which lasted me just over a month (and currently on buy one get one free in Tesco’s) it certainly won’t break the bank, and I think that for its price it is pretty good (the much lauded Olay cream is significantly more costly than this). There is also a bath cream, hand wash and bar soap available in the same range, if you like your bathroom products to co-ordinate!
On the whole, if you want the Cleopatra style bathtime experience that the name and description of the product conjures up, then this will not be for you. But if you want a decent shower cream from a well-known, well-respected brand, with a pleasant smell and good results then I’d recommend it.
Advantages: wonderful scent, moisturising, gentle Disadvantages: need quite a lot it to lather up, no hanging hook
...this shower gel? It is Palmolive Naturals Milk and Honey and it must be sent from the gods as it is heavenly to use.
Palmolive Naturals Milk and Honey is not technically a shower gel. It is a shower cream as it is thick and moisturising and is most suitable for very dry skin. The milk extracts are supposed to replenish lost moisture from the skin. I buy this product as I tend to have dry sensitive skin and have little patches of extremely dry skin ... ...their very fruity Kiwi stuff. Palmolive products are available in most good chemists and supermarkets. I tend to buy mine in Body Care for the bargain price of 99 pence. They are a wee bit more expensive in places like Boots.
The first thing you notice when picking up the product is the bottle. It is oval with a flattened bottom. I like this design as it is really easy to grasp hold of in the shower. The top is a flip top one which again is easy ...

...knocked me senseless was this, Palmolive Naturals, shower crème with milk and honey. Well I guess you all managed to work that one out already, didn’t ya!!
The first thing that hits you, unless of course you too have nearly had your head caved in by a flying bottle of it, is the smell! Wow:o)
It’s hard to describe, but the best way I can do is to say that it’s a ‘warm’, comforting smell, which I am assuming here is the honey extract? I have to ... ...of honey or milk in the ingredients? Unless they go under the guise of, Pareth Sulfate, Glycol Distearate, or Lauryl Polyglucose?? Nevertheless the aroma is overpowering, but in a gorgeous mouth watering way:o)
It lathers up beautifully too and rinses away as well, although I think the fact that the power showers at my gym are rather on the energetic side (depending on how fast the bloke on the treadmill is running at the time, generating the power, ...

Advantages: Smells gorgeous, leaves skin feeling soft Disadvantages: Only that at normal price I can't always afford it.
...offers. I found that Palmolive Shower Gels were on a Buy One Get One Free offer so I decided to go for that as it worked out at good value and would make a nice change. On offer it worked out at just under £2 for two 250ml bottles of shower gel which suited me. I chose two different ones and today I’ll be writing about their Naturals with Milk and Honey variety, the other one I’ll cover some time soon!
My shopping arrived the next afternoon and ... ...I have to say that the bottle is attractive and unusual for a shower gel, unlike most it doesn’t have that hook-on-lid contraption which can sometimes prove awkward – just a curved flip-top which clips shut firmly to avoid leakage. The thick white plastic bottle is a sort of oval shape with the lid incorporated in a pale orange colour. It certainly looks much nicer than the ones I normally go for – but obviously looks aren’t everything! What’s the ...

...I am talking about Palmolive Shower and Cream with Milk and Honey.
I have been using this product now for at least a year. When I tried it for the first time I found it has so much wow factor that I haven't yet found anything to better it.
It comes in an oval shaped container, white with a mustard coloured lid.Its made of tough, strong plastic and I have given it the squeeze test and no matter how hard you squeeze, the lid stays firmly shut and ... ...gimmicks on the side of this one, infact there is not very much at all. The container is very plain and ordinary looking and I wonder whether, at first glance, people would assume that the contents of this bottle were just as plain. They would be very wrong.
The top is one of these flip top ones. The only thing that I can find wrong with this is that there is no handy hook to hang it up with in the shower, but seeing as I use it in the bath as well ...

Advantages: Its looks nice in the bottle, it smells ok. Disadvantages: Plays havoc with my skin, the smell doesnt last long.
The first thing that attracted me to this showergel was the colour... It was an accident really, I was in my local Tesco, looking for my usual showergel, the PalmoliveHoney and Milk. I decided that I would buy the Honey one, plus this "Sensual" one.
I must admit, I am one of those people who usually picks things based on what they look like, but more importantly what they smell like. When I'm out doing my weekly shop, you will usually find me at my local Tesco or Waitrose flipping open caps of showergel or bubble bath, trying to decide on which one smells best. This is how I decide what to buy.
Personally I don't think I will be buying this "Sensual" showergel as it is anything but sensual.
Well, anyway, here goes,

Advantages: nice smell, does its job Disadvantages: nothing outof r the ordinary, smell not sstrong enough to be really invigorating
I'm like most people. I hate getting up in the morning and need a jolt to wake me up. I need a zingy showergel to rouse me from my slumber so I can get the day off to a good start. I usually find citrus or mint scents does the trick. I have used Palmoliveshowergel quite a bit as I really like their honey and milk moisturising gel. They also used to do a nice kiwi scented gel. Since I trust them I thought I would try the Vitality gel from their aromatherapy range.
The gel attracted me as it has grapefruit, orange and cedarwood essential oils. These sound a nice combination especially as I like citrus scented products (I am a big fan of Original Source products). At £1.20 for a 250-ml bottle it is reasonably priced and thus you can use it as an everyday indulgence rather than an occasional luxurious treat.

Aesthetically, my showergel is slightly different from the current packaging. The colour scheme is the same, as is the shape of the bottle, but the front label has been slightly modernised recently. The Palmolive website seems to be in the process of updating this, with the new Naturals range only on the UK version of the website. It's not the prettiest bottle to look at, and it may be that it's only because of the offers on this product that it ...
