My son has special needs, and still wears nappies at age 10. Sometimes there's an 'overflow' during the night, and the bed mats are wonderful at protecting the mattress (from smells as well as from damp). It's especially useful in the winter or wet weather when it would be almost impossible to get the mattress dried and aired for next bedtime. Okay, they're not especially environmentally friendly and they are expensive, but I have so many other issues to cope with that I allow myself this kind of luxury. And I think they would be equally useful for those whose kids are older but still bed-wetters. For those who are concerned about the environmental impact, reduce your use of the tumble dryer each week to compensate.
