Nowadays it is highly unlikely that anyone would consider using terry nappies as the price of disposables comes down and the quality improves all the time.

16 years ago my eldest daughter was born and I toyed with the idea of terries until someone gave me a pack of Pampers as a coming home present when I left the hospital. I never looked back. At that time the image was girls and boys nappies - a good idea where they were more padded where needed. Nothing much had changed when my 2nd daughter was born 3 years later and I carried on using Pampers as I had tried many others and nothing compared. Of course at that time it was around £7 for a normal sized pack and there were no bulk packs like today so it was quite expensive but I thought it was worth it.

3 years ago I had a little boy and wow what a shock when I went to buy some nappies - gone were the different sex nappies and in there place newborns, normal nappies and easy up pants. The nappies are not so bulky now and are made of a much softer outer material than the old type which resembled a plastic mattress covering. I expected these new type nappies to be much more expensive but price wise things were better as they are now cheaper than they were all those years ago, especially with vouchers that Pampers send you when you join their baby club online.

The Easy Ups come in 3 different sizes:-

Maxi - 8-15kg or 18-33lbs - 22 or 42 pants
Junior - 12-18kg or 26-40lbs - 20 or 38 pants
Extra Large - 16kg+ or 35lbs+ - 18 or 34 pants

The packs are the same price whichever size you buy and the difference comes in the amount in each pack so it is easy when comparing prices in different stores. The standard carry home packs which contain the lesser amount of pants usually sell for £5.65 and the larger economy sizes sell for £8.99. There are often offers on in stores like Tesco or Boots where you can buy 2 smaller packs for £10 or 2 larger packs for £16. These savings are often available on all the varieties of Pampers nappies and as every parent knows, savings of this kind help a lot in the expensive route that bringing up children takes.

Happy with the normal Pampers nappies again I decided to try the Easy Up type when my little boy started potty training and they have been so much easier. I remember in the olden days trying to pin the girls down to change the nappies at that age and struggling to get them off when they asked for the potty. These differ because they are shaped like pants instead of the normal nappies which have the stick down sides. They are elasticated for great fitting and make it easy for both adults and the child himself to pull on or off. If your child has an accident in them they can be ripped at the sides which makes it easier than pulling them down. They have a sticky strip at the back which can be pulled open for easy wrapping up of a used pair as well as fun elephant designs on front and back which my son loves.

My son easily adapted to pulling these up and down to use the potty himself and this has helped dramatically to encourage him - although he did like to show everyone he could do this to start with which could be embarrassing when we had company and he suddenly pulled them down and shouted out "I can take my pants off". Luckily all we had was amusement.

I wouldn't really recommend these if your child is still pooing in his nappies as they can be a bit awkward to get off if they don't get to the potty in time, but for wetting they really helped encourage my son without all the upset that my girls had when everything got wet with normal pants.

We have now completely mastered the art of using the toilet and although he has been wearing proper pants during the day for quite some time, we used these pants as a precaution at night for longer. This saved a lot of hard work of changing sheets and pyjamas which I know from past experience also caused more upset to my girls. It wasn't long before he was wakening himself to ask to go and we feel that it hasn't hindered his training at all to use these pants.

I know that a lot of parents feel that it is the feeling of wetness which helps teach toddlers about potty training but in my experience these have made my son's progression into normal pants a much less stressful situation and he has been able to get through this important developmental step in a fun way. It seems that Pampers themselves agree that a feeling of wetness helps too as they have brought out a new range just recently which stays wet for a little while to let your child associate wetting with the toilet. I think this is a great idea and hope it goes well for them. I'm not planning any more children but I hope this knowledge of the past and present helps any new mums.

www.Pampers.com also offer lots of helpful advice to mums as well as the baby club and I would recommend a visit to it for any mums with babies or toddlers. They regularly update their site with lots of helpful tips, not just about their nappies, but feeding and how to encourage various stages of development. They send you vouchers to use against their nappies or Kandoo products on a regular basis depending on whatever stage your child is at and they have saved us lots of money in the last 3 years.

Hopefully won't be needing these for a (very) long time yet but they sound great for the job! xx

We've used these and the huggies ones. Well done on getting them to work for you. As you say the kids certainly like the pictures on their big boy pants. I think they did slow down potty training for us for the reason mentioned below.
