When you have a baby it can be really hard to know what day of the week is, let alone what nappies to use. Super absorbent, reliable, cheap, easy to put onto a wiggling, walking toddler? Well Pampers have just added to the choice of nappies which are now available, especially for toddlers.
Pampers have been one of the leading nappy sellers since disposable nappies came on the market have just solved the most annoying problem since nappy rash. Yes, its a pull up nappy for toddlers. To the new parent its hard to think that small babe who is so dependent can suddenly change into a squirming, screaming walker who despises being stopped and having their nappy changed. Believe me it happens and all parents reading this will understand just how hard it is to lay a toddler down for a nappy change. Saying that, you can develop a technique of putting a nappy on while they are standing, it might end up a little lopsided with one half of the bottom hanging out. Hee hee reminds me of the first nappy change I did. Half hanging off and lopsided !!!
Infact I think I spend most of my life running around trying to catch my children for changing and surprisingly its not just wee and poo you find in there either. I have no idea how they manage it but I have found undigested food in there, no stools included.. I've even found the odd small toy in there, which must of been very uncomfortable to sit on. I still have my doubts on how it got there but there you go.
Anyway onto nappy changing. When your babe finds
their feet and start walking, there is no looking back for them. They will want to practice their new found skill at any chance they get, including running away from you when its changing time. So what makes these pampers easy-up nappies special?
A traditional disposable nappy which you lay out, put baby's bottom on the back half , fold the front half over and do up with two tabs, either Velcro or sticky tabs. This strategy is fine until they start crawling, wiggling and crawling about. Easy-up nappies can be used after 10 months of age and comes in two sizes, maxi and Junior . Ideally Easy Up nappies can be used when babe is crawling but can support their weight on their legs or if they are toddling about. The basic design isn't new, Infact they are similar to HuggiesPull Up pants for potty training so I'm not sure how they got away with trade marks/ patenting etc. Still if they beat Huggies to the idea, fine. Pampers Easy- Up design are basically like pants. Instead of having tabs to do up, you just pull them on. This is great for toddlers as its quicker, less hassle and you don't get so much squealing. To take them off all you do is tear down the seam at the sides and there is a tab at the back which you unpeel and you can roll the nappy up, pop it into a nappy sack and but it in the bin.
Although my youngest isn't walking as yet, she crawls like lightning. Now she's supporting herself very well on her legs so I decided to try them. You don't have to go and buy a pack to try them though. You can apply for some samples.. FREE ! Yep free, my favourate word. They ask you also to go back onto their web site an write what you thought about them. This is great as we all well know, feedback from the customers is always the way forward to improve something.

So what did I think about Easy up nappies?
Well I do believe they are a really good idea and I find pampers have always been good, even though they are a little of the expensive side. I used all 6 of my free samples over a period of a week at different times of the day, so I could get an idea how well they coped with different situations. I used the first one that night for the bedtime nappy. I am very lucky in the fact that Lucy who is 14 months goes to bed around 7 p.m. and gets me up around 8 or 9 a.m. the following morning. I'm not even sure what sort of time she wakes but she doesn't usually shout for me until that time or until she hears my eldest daughter.
This was a perfect test, 12/13 hours in a nappy, which may or may not end up having poo in it. Most mornings Lucy usually gets up with a pooey nappy, but sometimes its in a clean nappy while eating her brekkie. Yummy eh? Even though most babies at this age don't have any milk or fluids during the night, they still wee quite a lot at night, mainly because the bladder empty itself as soon as there is anything in there. Most of the time Lucy will awake with a soggy nappy with a damp bottom. Lucky for me she doesn't suffer with nappy rash, eczema or anything but its still uncomfortable to be lying or sitting in a soggy nappy. On this particular morning, Easy-up nappy felt as heavy as her normal nappy but when I took it off her bottom wasn't as damp as usual. . Luckily for me she didn't have a pooey bottom, but that's the next test !
I must admit that each time I used these nappies, which were on probably 4 hours at a time. Lucy's bottom was quite dry The side panel where you tear down to get them off was easy. You just take each side of the seam and pull. If toddler is standing then you can either tear down one side and they can step out of it, or you can tear both sides and it just comes off. Either way works well, just it all depends now long you have until you toddler decides to make a run for it.
Without being to graphic children's poo comes in various states from soft but not diarrhea, big and compact, or hard and small. Frequency isn't really an issue just as long as its regular for that child. Meaning if its normal for your child to have a poo every other day, that's fine. This doesn't mean that they are constipated. Having hard rabbit like poo usually means they are constipated. Having large, soft poos is ideal as it means they are getting enough fluids, fibre and necessities. Be warned, all depending on what sort of poo your child has (sorry !) should initiate how you should change them. If they are soft compact, then take Easy-up nappy off carefully.
This happened to me a few days ago as Lucy was standing up by the sofa and I decided to change her nappy as I could smell something rather odorous. After ripping both sides off and lifting the nappy up, I discovered there wasn't any poo, just a smell. Its wasn't until I heard Jess shouting at me, " Mummy, Lucys poo is on the floor! " I looked down and there staring at me was certainly the biggest bit of poo I've seen come from a toddler.
Now usually as we all know, most of the time its gets sat in sometimes if babe is playing so it gets stuck to the nappy, squigged in etc. Not this time. As Lucy decided to fill her nappy while she was standing, it just rolled straight out onto the floor without my noticing!!! Its a good job Jess noticed.. .I don't even want to think what would of happened EKKK. Sometimes Lucys poo is quite soft and stuck to the nappy, so in that case I took the Easy up off, wiped her bottom ( front to back for hygiene) and pulled another on.
A very unique idea is having a tab at the back of the nappy. With a traditional nappy, the tabs which you use to do the nappy up around babe, you also use to wrap the nappy up into a tidy roll and dispose of it. As Easy up nappies haven't got the side tabs, they have put one at the back. Its doubles up so all you do is pull and it pulls out so its long enough to seal the nappy up. Neat eh?
All in all Pampers Easy up nappies are a really good idea if you struggle to pin your always active toddler down for a nappy change. What's more as they come in Junior size, they can also double up at pottytraining pants as they get older. My friend who is just started potty training is doing just that, as they do work out a lot cheaper that Huggies Pull-up pants. She's been using them for about two weeks and her daughter loves them. So when Lucy gets that that potty training stage, I shall have to update this and let you know how she gets on.
I think that as I do use an economy type nappy for Lucy, I will probably stick to these for now. I'm very lucky in the fact that Lucy hasn't got sensitive skin and doesn't suffer from nappy rash, so can get always with using anything.. I think if she did have sensitive skin then I would stick to nappies that I found didn't irritate her. Pampers are well known for protection against sore bottoms because they use a lock away core, very similar to those used in sanitary towels for us women. I will probably go back and use Easy-up nappies as they are a superb idea. Now can Pampers come up with an idea on how to make a child hate chocolate and love carrots?
Try Moltex eco-friendly nappies. They're price comparative to the leading brands and good for the environment. Ask at you local paharmcy they can get stock through UniChem or Sigma wholesalers

Excellent. It was like reading about my own toddler, he absolutely detests having his nappy changed and I've just converted to pull-ups. I can only change him when he's standing, otherwise it's tantrums and tears! I found your review funny, informative and just brilliant and it's nice to know that I'm not the only one in that situation.

I have used these as training pants when my daughter was first at Nursery. They are really useful for night time use when a child is ready to come out of nappies but not quite ready for a bare bottom as well. Great op and LOVE the title!
Advantages: Superior materials, will stick time after time, attractive cartoon waistband! Disadvantages: A little pricey, depending on your budget, can leak but usually only if not properly fitted.
