Pampers have been making disposablenappies ever since they first hit our shelves. I had my first child in 1996 and at that time they had a shiny outer lining which made babies botties hot and sweaty. The tabs on them were also pretty useless. If you got the slightest bit of baby oil or sudocrem on them they wouldn't stick.
I now have an 11 month old. Oh, how things have changed! They now have a breathable outer 'cotton effect' lining that stops their little botties getting too hot. A brilliant idea that helps prevent nappy rash.
The tab fasteners have changed even since my latest was born. They had already improved them and made them effectively 'velcro fastening' but the annoying thing was that the tabs were just not big enough. Well this has now changed too. The new 'koala grip' tab fasteners are much bigger and therefore have better grip. I can honestly say that the nappies have always stayed put on my baby, even though he is very speedy around the house on all fours.
I had tried 'Huggies' a couple of times and always found that they leaked, especially at night. Which would always wake the baby up - exactly what you don't need!
The price of a pack called a 'carry pack' - which varies in number content according to size - but on average holds around 30 nappies is £5.95 and the price of the bigger economy packs, which hold about twice as many as the economy packs, is £8.99.
These new pampers are an excellent fit around the legs but they could give them a little more room around the tummy. I have to buy a size 4+ for my 11 month old which is for 9-20 kg or 20-44 lbs and he is only 24 lbs but they only just fit around the waist. The good thing is that they are unisex so you don't have to worry about picking up the wrong ones.
These new pampers have: 1. Double layered topsheet that speeds wetness away from baby's skin. 2. extra absorbent core that locks wetness into the core. 3. Symmetrical waistband design for easier fastening. 4. and ofcourse the new Koala Grip. Wider, softer tabs that work with the broader waist band for a snug fit.
Sizes: 2 mini 3-6kg or 6-13lbs 3 midi 4-9kg or 9-20lbs 4 maxi 7-18kg or 15-40lbs 4+ maxi plus 9-20kg or 20-44lbs 5 junior 11-25kg or 24-55lbs 6 extra large 16+kg or 35+lbs
These sizes serve as a guideline. You should also think about your baby's build, age, mobility and eating habits. If your baby is at the end of the range the next size up might fit better.
A piece of advice: I am always comparing the prices of everything. I have found that buying the so-called 'Jumbo economy' boxes are not always that economical. This is because major supermarkets e.g. Tesco, Sainsburys are always having offers on when you can buy two carry packs for £10.00 or two economy packs for £16.00. Also, if you join the different baby clubs run by these supermarkets you will be sent vouchers to get even more money off.
Pampers have a web-site: www.pampers.co.uk Just click on the United Kingdom link and you will be taken to the U.K site. Here you can join the pampers club which is a good way of getting a few freebies and vouchers. You can also look at other Pampers ranges such as baby wipes and bed mats.
