Now I read somewhere once that on average a Mum or Dad can change upto 6,000 nappies a year in their babies first year and I think it was about 4,000 nappies for the following year, so if I quickly work that out I have probably changed around 50,000 nappies and that is without the following months, years that get them to potty trained and without the numerous nappies I have changed whilst babysitting ( yes crazy woman does still babysit even though my house is like the waltons already!). With that information out I think I can safely say that I know what I am doing with a nappy!!
I have always used Pampers Premium nappies as my main nappy and have very rarely had any problems, although there have been a few hiccups. Let me tell you about them...
I vividly remember that when Ellie, who is 5 now was about 5 months old Pampers decided to change their nappies. They brought out the 'New Improved' pampers premiums. BIG MISTAKE for me or should I say Ellie. They had added a substance which I believe was for freshness in the lining of the nappy, which on the surface sounded great
but within 2 days of me using the new improved pampers ellie had developed what looked like a burn all over her nappy area which then quickly spread down onto her upper thighs. I called out the health visitor and she was stumped because it was plainly not nappy rash so I ended up taking ellie to my gp because by day 5 it looked absolutely horrendous and ellie was constantly screaming from the pain. I was gobsmacked to learn that ellie had had an allergic reaction to whatever was in the new improved nappies. We discovered this by elimination as I have always had to use the same washing powder, fabric conditioner as all my kids have very sensitive skin, I had not given ellie any new kinds of food, I had not eaten anything different ( was still breast feeding at time) and the only thing that had changed was the nappies. She was prescribed steroid cream to start with to take the inflammation down and then for about 6 months I had to use a barrier cream because her skin was extremely sensitive. I contacted Pampers because one I was very angry that it had happened to my little baby girl and I also didn't want it happening to any other little baby. They were extremely apologetic, promised they would do further testing and sent me money off coupons but as you can guess there was no way I was going to put pampers on ellie again so I swapped to tesco own nappies which were brilliant (and half the price I might add too!!).
I used pampers again on Chloe who came next and had no problems whatsoever, and sam had them too. To be honest with Sam I had no choice really as they are the only brand that do tiny nappies and he was a premmie. Later on when Sam was about 10 months old I bought a packet of pampers from tescos as normal only to find when I tried to use them that every nappy had faulty tabs. They all came off in my hand when I tried to stick them over. Again I contacted Pampers who sent me coupons for a months supply of pampers after I had posted them the faulty pack back.
The final problem I have had with pampers is that when you get to the larger sizes, 5+ (junior plus) 29-60lbs they tend not to do a good a job as the rest of their sizes do. Now I only use these at night for the girls as they are very lazy and flat out refuse to get up and use the loo without screaming the entire street down!!. I would like to point out that on the packaging of these particular nappies it states in big letters that it keeps your baby dry for upto 12 hours !!!!! So again after several nights of changing bed sheets and going through at least 4 nappies each girl per night I decided to try tesco own nappies again in the size 6 extra large, BINGO they didn't leak and we only had to use one per night. The other bonus to that is we were paying £5.96 for 24 5+ pampers and only £3.95 for 30 size 6 tesco own nappies. Now I know this may not seem alot in money terms but when you think at one point I had 3 children in nappies 2 of them fulltime it can save alot of pennies.
After saying all this I still use size 5 pampers premiums on Sam and have no problems with them at present although I think when he does get bigger I will have to look for an alternative, sadly it would seem that tesco have stopped producing size 6 nappies as they have been off the shelves for over 2 weeks now so we are currently trying boots own in the largest size. I think they are okay on sam because he isn't as chunky as the girls were, we had alot of problems because ellie had quite chunky thighs and the nappies were always quite stingy on the give around the legs and possibly he doesn't wee as much as the girls as I think they can only hold a couple of small wees before they start to leak.
Although Pampers are very good at having promotions on their nappies, usually 2 packs of 50 for £16 or the smaller packs at 2 for £10 they still are the most expensive nappies on the market right now. The company they are made by are Proctor & Gamble and they have pretty much thought of everything as I think it's only pampers and huggies that do travel sized packs of nappies which are always handy in emergencies. The have an excellent customer service program and all their details on how to be contacted etc are clearly printed on every packet.
There are several different kinds of pampers, from pampers active to pampers pull ups. They even have swim nappies which again I found were okay but tended to fill up with water quite quickly. You can buy pampers pretty much anywhere from supermarkets to corner shops stock them.
So would I recommend them, I would have to say yes because on a whole they have been pretty good but I would warn that if they are new or improved watch your babies beautiful bum carefully and look for a good alternative when they get a bit bigger and are still using nappies.

l had to make a similar change in the late '70s early '80s when pampers first added that fluid absorption gel grains to the nappies ~
they started to leak as they didn't absorb quickly enough ~ over the years, our "familial loyalty" has gone back and forth between Huggies and Pampers depending on which introduced the worst inovations at any one time ~ loved George nappies 11 years ago when Asda used to give mums a free nappy to change the baby and l was baby-sitting my new grandson
. . . . ~ ! ♥♥ ! ~ ........................................................... ~ jes ~ ! ♥♥ !
Advantages: Superior materials, will stick time after time, attractive cartoon waistband! Disadvantages: A little pricey, depending on your budget, can leak but usually only if not properly fitted.
