I have been using Pampers Baby Dry since my son was around 5 months old, and I think they have let me down on just 3 occasions, which is pretty good going considering he is now 16 months old!
*Pampers* Pampers nappies have been around since 1961, making them 46 years old. They began with pins in the sides instead of sticky tabs, which were not introduced until the 1970's. The 80's saw the biggest change of Pampers, with the nappies being made thinner, elasticated around the legs, and sticky tapes which could be moved many times without ruining the nappy, and the nappy weight was decreased by 50%. The 90's saw gender specific nappies by Pampers, pink for girls and blue for boys but Pampers returned to Unisex nappies again at the end of the decade. Pampers standards have remained the same since then, and they have kept improving the nappies with the additions of a sleep Layer, and Caterpillar flex, which I will go into more detail about a little further on.
*Pampers Baby Dry* Pampers Baby Dry have changed a couple of time in the relatively short time I have been using them so I will do the review with the most modern additions included in the review. They are available in different packet options;
a carry pack contains 30 nappies, and costs around £5.98, and an economy pack has 54 nappies and costs £8.98, although most supermarkets have offers on the nappies i.e. Buy 2 Economy Packs for £16, saving you £2. You can also buy them in Jumbo Value Packs, but I am unsure of the price of these, I think it is around £11.99 but don't quote me on that! The box contains around 75 nappies.
The packaging is very different to the one shown on Ciao, and is much more modern! It is still the same shade of green, but the logo has changed very much. It is now written in white lettering on the green background, and with a yellow heart above the word Pampers. There is a picture of baby on the front, with the size in the bottom left corner of the packet. The size block is a different colour according to the size of the nappy, the colours are dark green for mini (2)orange for midi (3), red for maxi (4), purple for maxi+ (4+), blue for junior (5), dark blue for Junior+ (5++) and green for extra large (6). The baby dry logo is also located underneath the Pampers name in a maroor coloured setting, with yellow writing.
There are 2 logos for the latest additions to the Pampers Baby Dry range. The older addition is Caterpillar Flex, and this is indicated by the coloured Caterpillar trail outside the size colour block. On newer packets, it is shown by a small caterpillar by the size block. This has been a great addition to the nappies actually, I much prefer using these nappies since they have introduced it to the range. Basically the side tabs which you pull around the side of your baby are now elasticated so that they expand and decrease with your babys stomach during the night and the day, and I find the nappies are a much better fit for Harry around the waist now. The newest addition, so new it has only been on packets for around 10 days, is the Extra Sleep Layer. Pampers have inserted another absorbent layer into the nappies in order to help them absorb baby's wee during the night a lot more and keep it away from the babies skin. I find the nappies are much more absorbent, especially in this weather when my son is drinking a lot more, and they don't leak as well, which is amazing considering how much my son wees in the night!! This logo is stars and moons around the size area as well.
The nappies themselves are quite pleasant to look at. They have a coloured strip along the front at the top, which is meant to be in line with your babys waist. The colour of this varies, and has different designs on it on each nappy, from dogs to bears to the Caterpillar. The size tabs you stretch around from the back to fasten onto the front are a green colour on the newer nappies, white on the older nappies, and feel sticky and easily cling to the band on the waist, and I have never had this fail to stick in all the month I have used them. The rest of the nappy is a basic white colour, but has a few picture dotted all over the front, spirals, stars, trumpets and other little designs, just to make it a bit more interesting I suppose! Strange that they bother really because I don't really pay attention to it, and it only gets thrown in the bin afterwards! The inside of the nappy is now a strange green colour, if I am honest it looks a bit strange, almost mouldy (sorry!) which is the extra sleep layer but if it works, I don't really care what colour the inside of the nappy is.
I have never had these nappies leak on me, and my son always seems super comfortable in them, even now he is running about like a complete nutter. The only occasions in which the nappies haven't been a success is when my son has had a VERY bad tummy and I don't expect them to hold everything in those cases! But 99% of the time, I am so happy with these nappies. I would thoroughly recommend them to anyone, especially for a night time nappy because for me they are unbeatable for absorbtion.
One thing I will say is do not go by the weight guidelines on the front of the packet all the time. For example it says size 4 is for up to a 40lb baby, yet my son is 25lbs and outgrew size 4/maxi nappies many many months ago! I just go by how they fit my son around the waist, and expecially around the top of the thighs, as he always gets red marks around his legs when the nappies are becoming too small. Also, if they are not absorbent enough, you tend to need to go up a size. Here is a list of the sizes and amount of nappies you get...
