It's only in more recent decades that a suntan has become fashionable. One with such a tan would be classed as being healthy and often a symbol of beauty. (This is due to the fact that the UV rays from the Sun are our main source of Vitamin D, which helps strengthen your bones, muscles and immune system making you feel better all round.) But it never used to be like that for centuries the only people who had a good tan were the hard labourers who worked outdoors all day. The sorts of jobs that the higher classes turned their noses up at.
In Edwardian times people went to great lengths to stay covered and to stop their skin from being exposed to the sun. Over the last century though the bathing costumes have gradually covered less and less, and our skin becoming more and more exposed. The results speak for themselves. Over 50,000 people are affected by skin cancer each year in Britain, and at least 2% will die as a result. But it was not till the 80's that it was realised suncreams helped prevent damage to our skin and not till the 90's that it was proved by scientists.
However with all this knowledge now, How many of you are careful about making sure you never go out without protection. Children are most at risk from the sun as their bodies don't produce melanin which helps protect the skin from the UV rays. How many times have you let the kids go out and play without thinking of their skin? I know I have. And I am even worse with myself. But sometimes putting on suncream, especially on wriggly children who are just eager to play is such a bind so when Pampers brought out these Sunnies wipes I was delighted.

Because they are wipes they are extremely flexible and can get in all the creases, nooks and crannies. Every part of the child can be covered.
The lotion appears white on the skin, fading after a while but this is very handy for seeing where you have applied already.
The wipes contain Panthenol Vitamin Moisturiser which helps the skin to recover from drying out and soothes dry skin. This is handy if you are spending a few days in the sun but it alsoi means they are suitable for children with sensitive skin.
The wipes are water resistant, so you do not need to constantly reapply, as they go in and out the water. But as with all lotions they will eventually wear off and need reapplying after showers etc.
~~~~The test~~~~
The packet I have I bought last year for when we on holiday in Cornwall. However if anyone saw the news they will know that Cornwall had a fair amount of rain last Summer, and we were more at risk from flooding that sunburn. So I still have a fairly full packet but it has seen some use this year.
We finally got our garden sorted last month. (Only been 9 years) and of course the children have been eager to get out. As I said earlier I tend to forget the protection bit but with these wipes by the door it is a constant reminder.
Normally the children are fully clothed so I make sure their arms and faces are done as well as the ears, amazing how many people forget and end up with bright red tops to their ears like Noddys' friend Big Ears! However on a recent very warm day they decide they wanted to go in the pool. Out came the cossies and out came the wipes. One thing that I have found with these wipes is that although they open up to around a flannel size, it takes three or four wipes to give proper coverage. With 30 wipes in the pack and us having four children they are not going to last long. Once I got to child number two I got myself prepared with several wipes out at the ready, but I soon realised they needed to be used instantly once out the packet as they dry very quickly. I can't remember what I paid but I don't think they were too cheap.
It took about 30 minutes to sort the pool, then about 30 minutes for them to get fed up and go back indoors, but even in this short time they could have got burnt. On the other occasions I have used the wipes they have not got burnt provided I have made sure there is good coverage.
As we are hoping for better weather this year then I won't be relying on these due to the cost. A bottle of good lotion can last the Summer and cost around £5. I did get a travel box with the pack I bought so this is handy to put in my bag for those days when the weather doesn't behave as it should. The packs are also good for putting in the childrens' school bags as often they have to take some lotion to school with them. And with all the laws these days the children have to apply it themselves so these wipes are much easier for them to use. With a bottle it tends to go everywhere and if they left the lid off, ......well, disaster! The wipes have a pull back sticky cover so most children can cope with opening and closing them themselves.
~~~~Any downsides?~~~~
Two really in my opinion. Firstly the fact that to cover the whole body it takes several wipes so it comes down to the cost thing. It depends what is most important here cost or ease of use. The second thing is that if by some chance you do not stick the opening back down it will not take long before the wipes will all dry out, and as I discovered when doing my children that once out the packet you have to work quick.

Finally, a few points to remember.
1) Babies under 6 months should not be exposed to the sun at all.
2) Any lotion will need reapplying every few hours, especially after showering.
3) Any changes in moles and freckles should be checked by your GP.
4) As well as applying sunscreen you should wear a hat to protect you from heat strokes and sunglasses with UVA and UVB protection to minimise the risk of cataracts.
Advantages: Makes applying suncream possible! Disadvantages: Expensive
My daughter sees any attempt to restrain her as an infringement on her civil liberties. At 14 months, dressing her had better be quick or she will put in a call to the European parliament-Ok, maybe not but she will scream and kick until she can carry on with the important business of balancing precariously on tables, putting saucepans in the washing machine and trying her hardest to find non food items to eat.
Like most toddlers, she is an adventurer. ... ...sure she was well covered up or in the shade. This year, she wants to go out in the garden first thing in the morning and run around outside all day long. Trying to find shady play areas is nearly impossible, so she really needs sun protection.
I had tried her with regular sun creams but she would often hit my hand away, sending lumps of flying cream in any direction, or would turn her head just at the moment I was putting a blob on her nose and ...

Advantages: easy to apply, no bottles that leak, quick and easy Disadvantages: your hands turn white, they are expensive and can tend to dry out
...is a godsend, but the pampers website advises reapplication after swimming.
Ok so what are the drawbacks? first of all they do tend to be expensive, so you really do need to shop around for offers which takes time, time which busy mothers don't seem to have. I tend to need 2/3 wipes to cover my 22 month old for each application, and i reapply every 3 hours or so and every time after he's been in the sea. This means if i go down the beach for the ... ...pack
The plastic box which comes with the starter pack is quite flimsy and was cracked within 2 weeks, and the sticker tab on the plastic refill pack tends not stick down too well once you've opened the pack a few times. Never mind getting full of sand too! This leads to the wipes drying out, so i often end up throwing away the top wipes as they have dried out. So they are wasted. I have since found a Tupperware that contains the wipes quite nicely ...

...THE PRODUCT
******************
I discovered Pampers Sunnies is our local Wilkinsons store. Sunnies are wipes which are impregnated with sun screen. They come in bright yellow packaging of the same style as a pack of baby wipes. Each pack contains 30 wipes which is equivalent to 110 ml of suntan lotion. The lotion has a SFP factor of 30, offers UVA and UVB protection and is also water resistant. The wipes also contain Vitamin E and Provitamin B5 ... ...The wipes are very easy to store and fit easily into a handbag (and my daughters school reading folder). They are much more portable and convenient than a bottle of sun cream.
USE
*****
One wipe contained enough suncream to cover my daughters arms, legs and face. She found the wipes incredibly easy and fast to apply, with no mess. The wipes do leave a slight white colour on the skin which is helpful to show where to apply, this soaks into the ...

Advantages: Practical, convenient, high SPF, no sticky sand!!! Disadvantages: Have I used enough?!
...managed to pick up the Pampers Sunnies on a (fairly) special offer from Boots for 6pounds (yes they are pricey). However the said special offer included a free dispenser box which really did do the job, ie keeping the wipes dry.
The idea is basically the same as your regular baby wipes but these sun wipes are drenched in a safe and sound SPF30 sun cream which you basically wipe over your baby's exposed bits (and non exposed if you are not using ... ...last inch. With the Pampers Sunnies it was a bit more hit and miss which is not ideal.
However all in all it is such a good idea that I have to believe they are a great innovative product, so handy as there are no sun cream leakages in your best beach bag, nor cross babies as you accidentally smear another bit of cream in thier eye! ...

What an excellent idea from pampers, sunnies are wipes which somewhat resemble baby wipes howeverthey provide an spf of 30!! which is great when you child or baby is fair like mine they protect against uva & uvb.
I would say these wipes are ideal for a nice sunny day at home, because whilst you are dressing your little one, it's really quick and easy to literally wipe them all over with these sunnines and you know they have then got maximum protection.
... ...much prefer a dry oil spray, because we found that as soon as you took them near the beach you got sand in them and then our baby wouldn't let us use them because i imagine it felt like we were rubbing sand paper on him!!
Another thing with sunnies is they are very expensive costing me £6.99 for only a few wipes where as a bottle of dry oil of the same protection factor would probably cost similar amount but would go alot further with protection ...

Advantages: stayed put, no leaks, comfortable, reusable and disposable Disadvantages: smallest size is for 16lb and over
Many public swimming pools do not like (and in some cases do not allow) babies into the pool in normal nappies. That aside it would be very uncomfortable for your baby aswell due to the way that the absorbant gel in normal nappies works. You have seen how full and heavy they can get just with wee in them. Imagine what they would look like with half a swimming pool trapped down there. Or even worse imagine the embaressment if one of them exploded when it got full to capacity!
Huggies Little Swimmers solve this problem as they are the first disposable swimming pants for babies (although I think Pampers have also made some now called Sunnies). Huggies are unisex and come in pack sizes of around 10 or 12 depending upon the nappy size bought and cost around £5 per pack or just less depending upon where you buy them. If you did want to save ...
